Hello All,    [please check the last page for latest updates!]

This thread is for keeping a running list of all the Eugene / Springfield machine locations since most of the other info out there is either outdated or nearly impossible to find. Please comment below with any information you have on machines in this area. I will add them to this first post in a nice list. I will continue to update this list whenever new information pops up. Thanks!

Eugene:

  • Venue: Round 1 - Valley River Center Mall [293 Valley River Center, Eugene, OR]
Cab: Pump It Up and more (see link below) but no DDR, ITG, or SM.

Wasn't there a converted Stepmania cabinet at the Springfield mall?  It was a Supernova when I was there like a year or two ago.  Probably not heading back considering I'm out of school but eh.

Another was the (shitty) Beatmania Core Remix in one of the barcades.

There's only one cab in the entire area anymore (it at least as far as I know of) and it's at Putters. It's been converted to Stepmania 5 though (with Simply Love!), it also has a really ghetto screen mod in it though, but it works okay. It costs 75 cents for 4 rounds. The panels on player 2 side sometimes don't want to fully register holds though. I'm friends with the guy who owns the cab (usually submits scores with the name "BELL" on the cab) and he's told me that he's planning on putting at least two more cabs in the area.

The Stepmania cab at the Gateway mall isn't there anymore as far as I've looked, and the Beatmania cab (used to be at level up) is also gone.

He's told me that he's planning on getting a cab on the university campus and at a family fun center, but I believe that both are still in early planning and there's nothing concrete about their locations.

Oh yeah, some more info about the machine at Putters: due to the nature of the business there, it usually has a lot of young children there. At times the kids there can be louder than the cab, but the volume of the cab is usually audible. The kids seem to move in and out of the arcade in waves, like most of the times there will be kids in the arcade, and then they go off somewhere (probably to eat food or something) and they might come back to the arcade section. So the noise levels of the people there changes a lot.

As for the player base, it's pretty much nonexistent. I think I've only seen one other person (other than Bell) play on the machine at all, and that person was playing 6s I think. Then again I live an hour away from Eugene and I can only there like maybe once a week, so there might be more players that are just never there when I show up.

At least Eugene had/has machines to speak of.  Corvallis had nothing.

Well that is about to change. My brother and I will be playing regularly if we like that machine. I can do most 9's pretty easily, though I'm a bit rusty. I'll check it out tonight and post my thoughts tomorrow.

So the one at putters is now an ITG2 cab with tons of files loaded on it. It has most ITG songs, a few from DDR Extreme, and a bunch of custom and stepmania songs. It does not, however, have most of the iconic DDR songs.  Undecided

I was only familiar with about a tenth of what was on there. But it does look like a pretty good spread so I'm excited to try some new songs. There are some really hard ones too, which is also exciting, but many of them have the "bombs" from ITG, which is not a cannon DDR feature and has always annoyed me. Whether you like them or not, just be aware that many songs have bombs.

The pads seem alright. I couldn't stay long and only played two games, but I didn't notice any glaring problems. The volume was a little low though, and it wasn't even crowded. The cab is right next to a basketball game, so that can be really distracting if someone is throwing balls right as your first round starts, lol.

It will take some getting used to the flat color arrows, fail at end of song, and using the pads to scroll through the song list. (You can use the buttons on the cab, but don't forget the pads can also be used to scroll so don't accidentally step on the arrows between songs.  Wink)

That's about it, I'll be going regularly and report back with any updates.

Edit: You can change arrows and turn mines off in the "extended settings" menu.  Kiss

Just to clarify: the machine there is an ITG2 upgrade cab, it is not a dedicab.

If you find mines to be to annoying, you can disable them by going into options, selecting "more options" on the first menu, then there should be a row on a second options menu for mines, and there should be an option for turning them completely off.

If you don't like the flat-colored arrows with the default noteskin you could change it to midi-note, which is pretty similar to the noteskin on DDR. I'll probably end up asking the guy who owns the cab to put in the old default noteskin from Stepmania 3.9, as that noteskin looks quite a bit like DDR arrows.

And for the record, a lot of the music in the cab is touhou/vocaloid/anime/weeaboo music, but there is still enough of "regular" music if you're not into that type of music.

It had "shock arrows", which are basically mines but are only quads. its not like ITG where you can have individual mines on individual arrows.

Thanks for the info! I normally don't mess with settings because it gets annoying having to "fix" things every time I go back to the arcade. I usually just end up playing with the default settings, whatever they may be. But I'll try hunting through the menus next time.

Having the more traditional noteskin as default would be really nice though. Smiley

Went back again last night and just wanted to let everyone know, there is no timer for song selection. It really makes the whole experience better knowing you don't have to rush to pick a song.   Grin

its also really nice for people like me who are extremely out of shape and have terrible stamina for when i need to take a couple of minutes to catch my breath

also what time do you usually show up there? i try to show up there weekly on sunday at around 2 or 3 pm

Trust me, I know how that is. I'm in decent shape, but after a particularly hard song, I always appreciate taking a break.

I usually go after work (around 6-8) on weekdays, and whenever I have time on Saturday. It really just depends on what else I have going on. I'll try to go this Sunday. Maybe I'll see you there.

So Saturday I met Love, the guy who works on that cab with Bell. Really cool guy! He said he'd be glad to load any mixes or songs we request, if he's able to find them. He also confirmed that there is a tentative effort to try and get a cab at UO. He also showed me that songs can be sorted by difficulty, name, genre, mix, etc using the left and right arrow pads (not the buttons on the cab). He also increased the volume just a bit. Most songs are now perfect, even with a crowd of kids in there.

Where are they planning on putting it? The Break is no longer there.

He mentioned something about the area being remodeled. I don't know if that's the rec center or something else. I'll confirm next time I see him.

Cab was out of order when I went today. Love knows, but no ETA on repair yet. It powers on but the computer seems like it just doesn't want to boot. Not sure why. Will update as soon as it's working again.

Update: A bit of maintenance was done to the cab at Putters recently. The right side is now more responsive than it used to be. Most of the harder songs are a little easier to play now.

I went in on Sunday (July 17) and the machine was turned off, no out of order sign or anything, just kind of turned off. I asked Bell about it but I haven't heard anything from him about it.

Apparently, there were some issues with the PC in the cab locking up and the staff at Putters have been either unplugging the cab or flipping the switch on the surge protector until Bell or Love can make it out. I have caught it like this twice now and just plugged it back in and it worked fine.

I honestly think the Putters employees just turn things off any time anything happens.

That said, I met up with Bell and Love on Saturday (July 23rd) and the machine seemed to be working excellently. I played about two and a half hours with no issues. So it should still be up.
