Greetings pad crushers! (Making this since the old thread got locked, sorry if this violates anything)

The ITG 2 Conversion machine at Narrows Bowl Plaza (Tacoma) is now undergoing a dramatic overhaul! One that will hopefully bring more attention to Narrows.

To boot, the team and I are modding the stage with the mods that you would find on ACME's machine, which you'll find an explanation on the mods in this thread! Progress on the stage can be tracked in a change log which can be found here.

Also, the machine will be upgrading from the RoXoR box to a custom computer running OpenITG! There are a ton of custom software tweaks and features to come as soon as I get the parts to install into the machine. It will be running a theme known as GrooveNights to start with, and if enough people ask for it we may even switch to SimplyLove (although don't get your hopes up!). We'll have a huge library of songs on the machine's HDD for Singles, Doubles, and Couples players, and we'll have support for USBs to load custom songs whenever you want!

For those who live closer to Tacoma than Tukwila, hopefully this machine is an easier commute and can be your new home cabinet! For those in the Seattle area and up north, we hope you all can come down once this machine is done and ready to play and give us some constructive feedback on the machine! Every little bit helps!  Roll Eyes

I'll post an explanation as to how we're modding the pads on the machine when I get pictures (which should be Friday), but for now, sorry guys. Sad

I have a better solution for you guys than a jpac if you are interested.  Will cost 300$ though

IMO that theme is a LOT nicer than SimplyLove, especially when it comes to explaining the menu options pre-song select. SimplyLove is not an arcade friendly theme for people who might be trying the game and don't know what the menu options do, but GrooveNights looks pretty slick!

Ditto. I like ITG3 because it feels a lot more like a true arcade theme.

You guys should look into ITGRetro. It's pretty kewl.

Hey guys! Just and update for anyone wondering, but the machine is functioning with the new computer in! I'll be there tomorrow to tweak the machine and make sure it's running like it should, but the machine is definitely playable as of today!

mind posting the pictures today still? i'm curious as to what's going on under the hood Wink

also: another thing is you may want to switch over from windows because there are innumerable security risks and other issues which may hurt performance in the long term. if you need help with gnu/linuxmany people would be more than happy to help. a good solution for installing new songs then would be sshing. just an idea to help.

Thot, Bauregaurd told me in-person that the machine is running smooth right now and is overpowered for what ITG needs anyway. If it starts getting laggy, they can probably address it later whenever that becomes an issue.

Also I'm fairly certain the machine is not connected to the internet.

read the update manifest, wifi updates. also, windows is always bad for timing critical applications or anything doing with consistency/stability. being able to run a stripped down distro that specifically does certain functions but NOTHING unnecessary is obviously better than windows, but to each their own i guess. just stating some obvious advice that could very well help in the future and possibly save huge headaches.

Just got done testing the new cabinet. The narrows is now my favorite arcade! You did an amazing job on the machine, Boo!

How is timing with the jpac?  I use a jpac and ipac in my popn cab and I really like how it works though I had to do some solder work and quite a bit of handiwork to keep my cab completely and easily compatible with my old kit.

If it feels good to you guys then I wouldnt even worry about a minimaid.  Curious for when I get a ddr cab.

The timing works well after a bit of tweaking around with the offset. The machine is set to -0.019 right now if that helps any. For $65 I'd say it's well worth the price.

Also sorry for not getting any pictures up this weekend, I should probably wait for after we re-mod the stage (which'll be some time on Tuesday or so, idk) since we're kind of using a barebones version of our pad mod and they miss trigger a little... So yeah whoops

Yeah if it works for what you need then yeah save the money for cab updates.  Does the pad really feel comparable to a dedicab?  Ive never played on modded ddr pads.

I may be biased in saying this but I prefer properly modded DDR pads over dedicab pads. Something about them just make them feel different in a good way for me. Of course right now Narrows pads still need work done to them so I haven't gotten any opinions from others, but I've played on a DDR conversion cab with modded pads before and loved it.

pads are pads shitty or godlike...the love of the game should be enough to overcome the difference. We used an busted extreme machine back in NC as upgrade cab. for when the dedi was out for cleaning by the arcade vendor. Anyways, when ever I get back from this underway I will check this play out.

No
How can you enjoy wasting money to play if the pads are that bad.  No matter how much I enjoy a game I would much rather play in working condition.  Thats like playing a fighting game with iffy switchs.  Not very fun at all

i have to agree with this sentiment, the ddr arrows are much more substatial: combined with the superior bar this is really a win win if you like modding.
