It looks like this place is open. Has anyone been to it?

I have!  Our crew is down there quite a bit doing service calls.  It has a nice collection of vintage games.  Lots of classic 1980's video games, some older pinballs, and a few newer pinballs we threw in there.  Worth checking out if you dig 1980's toys.

I've been there. There was no beer when I went because they didn't have the license yet, so it was arcade + snacks available. The guy who runs it seems pretty cool, and supposedly is fairly open to game suggestions.
It's about half pinpall, and half other games (ms. pacman, asteroids, donkey kong, arkanoid, etc). The current selection isn't as quite I'd like, I don't really feel like I could play any of them for hours, a good shmup or 2 would help.
The place has some potential though.

This place finally got their liquor license apparently. I've been there recently, Extreme is now only $.50/3 songs (used to be .50/2songs) so its kinda nice that its cheaper than everywhere else, pads in great shape too since no one at all plays here. I'm a bit scared now with the alcohol and if this place takes off as a barcade, there will be a lot more messed up machines/buttons/pads ala Gameworks Lips sealed

They got Time Crisis II, Crisis Zone, and Marvel vs. Capcom recently, so its nice to see they're expanding out of just retro/pinball

......How long has Extreme been there?

We dropped the Extreme in there about 4 months ago.  It is one of the original Narrows cabinets, with memory slots.  Not sure if all the old Chris Foy edits are still on there?  But there used to be a ton of them.  Also, it is one of the very few bonafide Extremes that came from Japan.

I wish I could "like" this comment.

I've heard this story before. I used to think that all Extremes were Japanese but I guess not. Was this 100% authentic one ever at Narrows or something?

Yes, this was one of the two Extremes at Narrows.  They were upgraded with actual factory release Konami update kits.  Look at the marquee header clesely, you will see the difference in the translite and Bemani authentication sticker.  We payed big time for these, enabling us to get some of the first Extremes in America.  It was released on a Christmas Eve in Japan, and we had them here the day after Christmas.  Awe, the memories of the cool ass arrow smashing phenomenon days.  Miss it much!

I love you Bill, you're the best arcade operator guy ever.

Does the place still look like it does in this video?
Dorky's Barcade (arcade) in Tacoma, WA

It looks like a well lit version of Ground Kontrol. Tongue

And I'm assuming it's still 21+ only?

Yes, with exception of maybe a half dozen rotations, the video is pretty dead on with the current lineup.  Not 21+ until after 9:00 P.M., kids welcome all day.

Great place, and yep Les is a really cool guy to talk to. I've only been there once back in like April, and it was before they expanded and added more games. Definitely want to head up there again sometime (that tournament would be a good excuse)

sorry for the necro...

i was in there today. interesting to see the panels switched around. all the blue on one side, pink on the other...

but what the heck happened to all the inside brackets? just about all of them are gone.

also, some sensors were sticking pretty bad in the 2p right arrow and i think down on both sides got stuck a few times. i full comboed an 8 on 1p and then got several misses on two 7s afterward. weird. i think the pad needs an overhaul.

Thanks for the bump - I hadn't updated it with Z-i-V data yet.

$.50 for Extreme is nice, I don't think we have many Tacoma people around still though, as 3 1/2 years of no posts is really quiet. Good thing this arcade doesn't depend on music gamers. Smiley
