I just moved to Lynnwood in August of '08 and so far I have been disappointed with every single "arcade" I've been to north of Seattle.

The only true arcade we have within 10 miles is Funtasia, and that place has the worst maintenance I've seen in any arcade in years. I went there just the other day and failed on Freckles because I had over 50 pad misses...ridiculous. But even putting DDR aside, I tried their Virtual On, Marvel vs Capcom 2, and The Simpsons game and all of them had game crippling problems of some kind or another.

...and if you decide to forgo the true arcade experience and try a bowling alley, you get the same scenario. Some decent games, but all in some form of disrepair. And the best part is, they're usually charging you too much to play these broken games!

Every month or so I venture out to see if the situation has improved, but to no avail. I sometimes wonder if it was always like this. I know the Tacoma and southern Seattle area have Acme and Narrows to keep them happy, but does anyone know if the northern Seattle area ever had good arcades? I imagine that Funtasia could have been awesome during the golden years of DDR (if they kept their machines in decent shape), but I wouldn't know. Does anyone remember a time when this area had any good arcades?

About 6 years ago, there used to be a LAN cafe in Lynnwood that was open mega late and everyone hung out there because they had a giant TV you could hook a PS2 up to. Other than that... well, I lived in Lynnwood from '06-'07, and there was NOTHING. I lived around the corner from the Brunswick lanes and I still drove to Acme 5x a week to play. Tongue

There may be playable machines in Everett. I never bothered because my friends all played at ACME.

When I moved to Lynnwood I felt like the city itself was going to grow a lot and become a big center for stuff, the Tukwila of the north only less getting shot, if you will. Then the economy happened. Now I'm super relieved to be in Bellevue, which is only 15 minutes from everywhere. Tongue Maybe if you wait it out, though, Lynnwood will be awesome?

Laura, since you live in the area, have you ever been to the arcade at Tech City Bowl? It's kind of in between Redmond and Kirkland.

I have been to Tech City, but the last few times I was there, the pads kind of sucked. I'd love to see it in awesome Bill-quality condition, because if that were the case, I'd be there multi-times a week.

Portland is moving the same way.  Ground Kontrol is my last beacon of hope.  They keep having to push up their beertime though.  I will probably just jump off a bridge or something if they stop allowing minors before 2012
