Hey math major, with that logic, the long minimum should be in the 2:00~2:15 range and the marathon minium maybe 4:00~4:30.  Just sayin'
Basically there's two ways to look at it. Either if you're playing longer than 1 official stage it should count as 2 stages, i.e. long length minimum 2-2:30 like you said. Or else the preferred version of logic: if you aren't playing as long as 2 official stages it shouldn't take two stages. In other words a long min length of 3:30-4min. I and probably everyone prefers the latter.

I don't want to open another can of worms but the cabinet we have been playing on for the last few months may have had *smaller* timing windows. Apparently, the OpenITG devs fucked up and actually shrunk the timing windows in comparison to original ITG. It may only affect the default theme under OpenITG but it might affect all themes installed. I'm gonna work to get to the bottom of this tonight; what a nightmare. If it's any consolation all openITG cabs have this same problem. vyhd joined our forums so it would be good to see what he has to say about it.
Woah woah woah, you mean to tell me that the Acme machine has smaller timing windows than normal ITG machines? That's great news! It means my timings better than I thought! Fix this shit so I can finally get a quad star!

Yeah, a lot of people have this problem too since most arcades in areas with big ITG communities are now running OpenITG.

Whoa Whoa no!
think about this guys, smaller timing windows means better timing. Don't fix it, we will get better faster than other people this way.

I can say confidently that IF the timing windows are smaller than what ITG R16 was, then that difference in size is miniscule.  I speak based on how I do on Remember December, on which I got 4 on the current oITG build at acme. I know it's sort of a cocky example to bring up, but I'm damn consistent at that song and a small change in window size would be very noticeable to me.

what I'm saying is don't touch it unless it's bigger than it's supposed to be.  The last thing I (and other players who care about their scores in general, correct me if I'm wrong) want is a timing window that's bigger than normal.

Right, don't make it bigger than it's supposed to be. But if it's indeed smaller than,
say, a normal ITG2 dedicab or whatever most high end players are using it would be nice to have it at the correct size. And yes even the slightest change could make those 2 or 3 excellents a quad star...

I'd just like to say, the Acme machine is now working great! Long songs are for the most part working as intended. And no set is taking too long except when it takes too long to pick songs out of the long list of new charts now on the machine. So thanks to all involved! Only problems are that occasionally I've seen the machine crash when loading certain songs, which appears to not be dependent on the song, as I've restarted the machine and theyve then worked just fine, and that the USB slots are still a little erratic at times, but again, a good restart almost always fixes the problem. And ITG3 skin is now working again just fine! So thanks all! Let's keep adding more good custom charts too!

Kevin were you able to fix the timing windows? I haven't really whored out for timing since the changes.

The crashing is because of the lack of RAM. When I went people wanted to play so I tried to get things done as fast as possible, so I'll fix it soon. Of course it still took a while because booting Linux from your flash drive is slooooooooooooooooooooow. USB 1.1 ports. The timing windows are indeed smaller than the non OpenITG default R16 timing windows, but they are the default for OpenITG cabinets. This is incorrect, and there would be nothing wrong with widening them to the R16/R21 standard. We'll see.

I say again, I don't know HOW different you guys think the timing windows are based on what data, but I am someone who played ITG R16 extensively, and know my skill level well.  The timing window does not feel different, AT ALL, and should remain where it is.  The only people who care about timing window sizes are those competitive players anyway, and if 1) openITG defaults to the timing windows we have, and 2) they are the allegedly smaller than normal timing windows, then it follows that for competitive purposes, we maintain the windows to keep on even ground with other players as well as assist in bettering our timing with a narrower target.

Of the three people who have responded to this issue (me, kevin, allan), two of us agree with what I said.  There are only a handful of other players who would give two shits, but I suggest formally or informally polling them to figure out course of action.

Bill, DM V3 is running great, was there this evening.  Thanks again for keeping it in prime condition.

One of the Street Fighter IV cabs was Out of Order.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that too. Drummania is excellent, was a ton of fun on Monday.

Sweet, glad to hear DM is getting a little love.  Was not sure if it would ever run again a few months ago.

Watch for upcoming news regarding the old Silver Coin mall arcades.  We are going to be conducting a complete liquidation of all the games, fixtures, and furnishings.

Bill, Called these in last night.  I don't play any of these but it's kind of bad when some of your main earners are on the fritz.
Street Fighter IV 1P Cabinet: Looked like a white screen of death.  Possibly fixed with unplugging/plugging in the machine?
Wangan Midnight 3: 2 of the 4 cabinets had out of service signs on them.  Honestly I don't really know what the issue was.
Initial D 4: The 2P Cabinet had a card reader issue.
House of the Dead: I think the light guns may need to be calibrated?  Notice people playing it but they die after like 30 seconds.  Are people really that bad at HOTD?  I figure it must be that the machine needs some love.

Drummania working well as always.  Snare drum is mis-registering a bit I think but nothing major.

The usb ports were very iffy tonight for Rudo and I..
Even after reseting the ITG machine a couple times, I only got it to work for 1 set of songs.

It sometimes has this tendency to imply that it has loaded my profile. Then once we get to the song selection, it would change our names to "No Profile Data".

Had better luck with the usb drives last night, but the right-side pad now has an unsteady right-arrow corner, since the screws are all coming out.
(total of 4 knocked-out and/or missing screws presently)

Amusing little barely pass, for my first try on CH:speedy mix Screenshot

Hey hey! nice score! You're gettin there Cheesy

Also, I think most of the screws that have fallen out are stripped.

Thanks. I'm slowly tryin to work up the stamina for 13s.

Tuan and I lately have begun to prefer the right-side more than the left. It was no surprise that a Dragonforce song was what knocked out the latest screw.

went to acme today. saw a few unfamiliar faces.
The 1st player usb slot took forever to load and froze my game which ate my dollar. Had to restart the machine and didn't use my usb after. The custom song folders seem to lag a lot but everything else was ok.

Hey Patrick, not sure what happened there. When I came into Acme today the machine was unplugged, so I plugged it in and found that the 1p coin mech was jammed. However, the 2p side one was fine. Anyway, I tried out my drive with 50 songs on it and it worked just fine. I guess the machine needed rebooting or something. It's hard to say; let me know if you have any more problems.

Yo Bill,
Well it was tough to readjust after jamming on Drummania XG a few weeks back, but the DM V3 at ACME is in good shape still.  Thanks for keeping the machine in good condition =)

I assume the 2nd Street Fighter IV cabinet has moved to wild waves for the summer?  My friend was asking about it.
Best,
C

Hey Chris,
Glad the DM is holding in there.  I wish the SF4 was missing due to being relocated.  It is at the sharp, and down hard.  Looks to be a bad video card, and we are fumbling to come up with a compatible card.

Bill,

I keep meaning to call your support line but I keep forgetting, so I'll post it here for now.  On pop'n music, about 2 or 3 weeks ago, I think someone may have spilled a drink on it.  The leftmost 3 buttons stick intermittently mechanically.

Yeah, my Pop'n pals told me the same thing about the machine. It's got some sticky buttons.

Also, this was the first time I've been able to go to Acme in ages. I was rather disappointed in the volume of SN2. I'm probably the only person who plays it, but I couldn't hear anything at all when ITG was on. I expect it to be slightly difficult to hear, but it was nearly unplayable. Also, there wasn't a whole lot of other activity in the arcade at that time, so I can't blame it on the typical Saturday night noise blitz. I think that boosting the volume a notch or two would do it well.
