Note about the poll: the pads have been modded for waaay more than 3 months. The poll is unfairly biased toward people who put up with it/like it, because they would have played a lot more than people who didn't.

How about 2 years?

I'm very late but would like to weigh in on the powder issue.

I guess I'm what you would call a "casual" player (as I can barely pass 10s now and I'm fat). In my past experience, I've found the pads to be very slippery even when I was the only one there and there was powder on the floor and on the pads.

Dance games weren't as popular as they were several years ago, but there's still a ton of kids that go to Acme and may definitely get hurt because they're kids and don't expect a 1,000 pound stage to be slippery.

I haven't frequented Acme as much as I used to back when zzyzx was still a thing, but I think it would be good practice to try and clean up as much as possible.

*Edit

Forgot to mention during my most recent games, I noticed a lot of pad misses which weren't an issue before.

Played at ACME today and it was great!  Smiley It was nice that the pads looked clean without much powder on them...or so I thought. This was untill a random couple asked to play and chose one of the ITG2 songs. They were slightly heavyset and the very first step was a jump. When they hit it (and they jumped like 3 inches in the air), a powder geyser erupted and covered thier legs.

I guess thats one way to get the powder out from under the arrows!

Need a shop vac by the itg cab apparently.  Random question, does acme allow you guys to use fans while you play?  I dont remember having one ever.

Couple years back I remember fans. I don't know if the policy changed since then

I've never seen anyone called out for having a fan. Gerrak usually (always?) has one.

yeah why was my post regarding this deleted, literally any post in that topic that isn't directly responding to the poll is being deleted and frankly reasonable points like this are going to be lost in a sea of other shit in any other thread.

can the official nick for pro flushed people be flushers

I agree that it's really just becoming that overly family-appropriate venue where swaggy teenagers occasionally crash, and it's no longer as populated with the music rhythm geeks like us.

The first sentence in the thread says poll only, no discussion there. Please follow the rules.

it makes sense to have a flat dance floor, like dance floors are
Gerrak, your comparisons of the ITG stage to a dance floor completely fail when you consider that on a dance floor people are actually, you know, dancing, instead of holding onto a bar and rapidly moving their feet a few inches to the same 4 positions to a 10 minute long dragonforce song.  Tongue

If more people played doubles, which is the closest you get to actual dancing on a dance game, then the dance floor analogy would work really well. But as we've all said, there's no dancing going on on the ITG machine, because doubles can't currently be played on the machine. Smiley

/end pro-doubles post.

So do we all agree on the following?
1) No decisions should be made one way or the other until new, good sensors are installed. Complaints about the pads needing constant maintenance and pass misses might be the fault of the sensors and not at all the modifications.
2) Try to possibly find some compromise between completely flushed and recessed to accommodate everybody? Completely shutting out either group of players and having one of the "pro-flushed" or the "anti-flushed" groups win over the other is a terrible idea that will continue to cause people to be decisive.
3) Baby powder left on the stage is dangerous and those who use it have already stated they will put more effort into cleaning it after they play to make it safer for everyone.

well the issue is that the poll is flawed, there needs to be a meta discussion thread for the poll itself so we can make a poll that is balanced and does not favor a certain side. i should also mention that how the results are displayed are skewed: pantsu does play at acme but the results are displayed as though he does not go there at all. the whole setup of the poll etc need to not favor anyone.

edit: some newer players may have minimal experience with non flushed pads so that even further skews it.

not sure if you aren't counting my vote because I don't live in Washington or because you just didn't see it, but i'd say based on my achievements alone you should count my vote.

Quote from: Top line from the poll results
Results as of 8/9 from WA area players:
I am currently trying to accurately reflect the opinions of the LOCAL ACME PLAYERS and not the opinions of the extended community.

ADDITIONAL RULE GOING FORWARD:

Anyone posting a complaint in this thread must offer a possible solution for discussion. If all you're going to do is complain or point out flaws without putting a good faith effort to trying to help the situation your posts will be deleted without warning and a repeated offense will result in a temp ban so that you don't cause noise while others are actively trying to find a solution that will benefit everyone.

pointing out that the poll is flawed is in good faith, many players on facebook and elsewhere have stated they haven't been going to acme. this poll isn't representative of them. if anything the poll should be on facebook for acme/washington area players so they all get a fair shot. note how i'm not saying count oregonians here.

edit: the 3 month thing should definitely be deleted as well. could be a cross-site poll, i think pnwbemani+fb would be a good enough sample size to actually figure out what the community as a whole wants. perhaps put something on the machine as well that links to a www.strawpoll.me poll, so that way the discussion doesn't turn them away and they can just answer it?

If you'll notice, the 3 month element is not calculated into the actual poll results. It is additional information to supplement results.

As for posting on FB, for years this site has always been the one and only official discussion board for Acme's machine. If you find people on Facebook or elsewhere that are not discussing here, please direct them to post here so their opinions on this matter can be considered.

I have been a part of this community before pnwbemani was a thing.  I played at acme almost every night when I lived there and I still have fond memories of playing with some of you.  Now I almost feel not welcome in the community anymore and since my opinion doesnt matter anyway why should I care what happens.  I will probably just avoid visiting acme in general.

why is it so necessary to have supplementary information that has a bias?

not everyone wants to post here, and we still haven't heard anything from bill.
there's literally nothing wrong with an offsite poll that is run by you and serves the same function. with an offsite poll signups are unnecessary and it's easier for players who don't necessarily want to come back and post to vote.

Now that I've thought more about it, I'd like to postpone my vote until new sensors are put into place. Is that doable?

this is a very valid point, and to be honest we should postpone the whole poll so people have a feel for both and can have a more informed opinion about how both ways feel?

I've already reached out to Bill.

Also, if anyone active in the community who knows about this site is too lazy to come and talk in the official discussion, then they don't care enough. This is the only official place this discussion will happen. End of this discussion.

We can do a re-poll after the new sensors if many in the community would like to do that and feel it would have different results.

New sensors should be here in a week, I will give them to APHR for installation.

BTW, revenue has been a tad bit better since pad modding began, in case anyone was wondering.

My take on this, I just want the majority of the players to be happy.  I really have no opinion other than that.

Hi Bill,

I know I've been away from the forums due to this heated debate, but I'm posting to say, thank you for getting some new sensors for us to install at ACME. I am eager to install them and get your machine running at 100% once again!

I'm extremely happy to hear that your revenue is a "tad bit" better since modding, and I will continue to do my best to make sure your revenue is a "whole lot" better once we install the new sensors.  Smiley

Thanks again,

Chris

Played a killer set today. As in my feet still hurt.

I tested both sides on single for multiple sets. I also tested double for multiple sets. There was a slight issue with ghost stepping when I got there, but Kevin did magic wooby tape stuff and the ghost steps were greatly diminished after that. Double went better than you would expect. I was keeping 100 and 200+ combos on double 10's. Frankly, I was dropping combos due to the patterns, not the pad. I had much more ghost steps on singles for whatever reason. Don't know what that is about.

As far as I can tell, it real is just a sensor problem. I am not a 1337 pro, and I had a 224 combo on a double 10 at one point. That doesn't really smack to me of unplayable. I would strongly consider those that are convinced that you can't play doubles on this machine to give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised.

Hi West (Wes? Couldn't hear you to well over the ITG machine!),

Seeing that some of the fire has died down, I hope it's okay for me to post.  Undecided

It was great seeing you at ACME today and I'm happy to hear that Kevin was able to help you out today! Hopefully, we can have a beast session together sometime and really work on the stage together. We need more people like you to come out and help us test the stage! Once we get new sensors in, would you mind meet up with us to help test? We would greatly appreciate it!

Chris
