It's definitely hard having those two machines facing each other - I think it'll always be a battle where one drowns out the other as long as they're directly in line with one another.

One thing I remember about my visit to Arcade Infinity back in the day is that Konami's machines (can't comment on ITG, but this is still likely true) do a reasonable job shooting sound straight back from the machine, so they can be next to one another at high volume and players won't notice, but it they face each other, they each wash out the other.  This led to a weird situation at AI where you couldn't hear the song when you watched someone play, but you could hear perfectly once you started your set.

Wasn't SN drowning it out. Believe me, I know the volume level of the machine. I got the ears of a MONGOOSE. Even the slightest nudge up or down is noticeable. Plus I know the ratio of how loud my steps are compared to how loud the song is, and no I wasn't just stepping harder yesterday Tongue

I could just be going crazy, but this mongoose says something nudged it down! I mean it doesnt need to be up much, maybe pi/16 radians clockwise or so.

Anyway thanks again for looking into it  Grin

I've played in arcades where the machines are back to back and this usually works out really well, too.

We have always wanted to stick one towards the back of the room, but that cannot work out as the Acme offices are on the other side of the back wall, hence why we have the quiter things back there.

I saw on a service report this morning that ITG was turned up last night at 9:00 P.M. or so.  How is the volume level today?

Hey Bill, just an FYI - the DMV4 machine needs some maintenance on the bass pedal - it's missing several bolts/screws and is rattling around a lot and having problems registering hits possibly because of this or a loose connection.

Thanks.

ITG volume is great, Supernova still can't really be heard over ITG.  I think it's just because they're directly facing each other; I don't remember having any problems like this when ITG was closer to the front and Supernova was still where it is. I'm not sure if it's possible to do anything about it, though.

Going to ACME at opening with Catherine from Canada for a few hours today.  Smiley

I'm also having DM bass issues - it seems to be a loose connection or something, probably related the the single screw holding the pedal in place, since it works consistently when hit in ways the push the pedal back into the proper place.

ITG was fighting a losing battle against background noise yesterday, but I think it was more a function of loud people playing basketball while SN was being played and not just the relative volume settings between SN and ITG - SN alone was barely noticeable.  I know it's tricky to move stuff around, since the back area can't be to loud, but the SN, ITG, Basketball trio generate a lot of noise for each other (not really an issue for basketball, obviously) and create a severe choke point for the arcade - as soon as a few people are watching ITG or SN and someone is playing basketball, you can't get to the back of the arcade.

The pedal on the DM sure did have issues.  All fixed, let us know how it turned out.  :-)

That Let's Go Jungle game in the back froze today and the loop that it kept repeating sounded VERY much like gigadelic from IIDX.  It was even the right speed.

The Lets go jungle machine has frozen from time to time for a while now. A restart, that is, unplugging and replugging it in, will fix this Smiley

Is there any chance of getting the basketball game moved farther away from DDR and ITG?

I say this because I am somewhat worried that a ball will go under my feet in the middle of a jump and I'll trip on it, fall over, and seriously hurt myself.  This may seem ridiculously improbable, but I've had no less than three basketballs from that game hit me in the leg while I was playing this week alone.  Not to mention there are people who play around with the basketballs that aren't locked up by the game, and they might lose control over the ball too.

Yes, those basketballs are an issue, but where to put them?

@Chris, those buttons got fixed Friday night?  Please let me know if they did not, but that should have been done within hours of your call?

I have had basketballs roll onto the pad and mess me up, and have had them go awry and nearly break my fan, knock over my drink, etc Tongue Punk ass kids thinking they're cool dribbling around and losing it rather than just playing the game, or else shooting from way far away and completely whiffing, hitting the top of the game and the ball goes flying off elsewhere. I agree the basketball game evokes rowdy idiocy in people and should ideally be moved from we docile dance games folk. Where to put it? Anywhere but in the exact middle of the arcade preferably...

How about move the "SuperNova 2" (that is to say, Daffodil's Extreme machine really Wink) to where the basketball machine is, move a pair of racing games from the left of the DRAGON PUNCH game to where SN2 is currently, and move the basketball game to over where the racing games were moved from. This would fix the basketball problem and the DDR-ITG-drowning-each-other-out problem as well. Might require a savvy movement of the crossfire-like game but (no offense) this game doesn't really need much priority over the dance and basketball games and could just as well be tucked in a corner or moved elsewhere. Just my assessment Smiley Thanks for looking into it Bill!

Yeah, does the crossfire-like game really get much play?  It really seems low-priority and could just be moved into a corner.  I can't recall even a single time I've seen anyone playing it.

Gerrak's idea sounds good to me.

There's a new DRAGON PUNCH equivalent game there now. Makes all this machine moving a big problem. Makes old Gerrak a little miffed because almost the only ones who play that game are belligerent drunken loud assholes who want to think they're cool and demonstrate their "manliness" and it encroaches on my ability to enjoy dance games as much...

Anyway here's my mathematician optimized solution conceived after measuring widths and depths of various machines in the arcade and considering probable and observed usage of various machines:

-Move the new Boxing/Dragon Punch equivalent game to where the old one was. Really don't need two of these anyway...

And then
-Move the Time Crisis game to where SuperNova2 is now.
-Move Initial D to the left, where Time Crisis is now
-Move the Basketball game to where Initial D is now
-Move SuperNova 2 to the left where the Basketball game is now

The Spectrum Fireball game can still fit quite well behind the H2Overdrive and Maximum Tune games with this setup. So basically just rotate those four machines and the arcade will be laid out just about perfect, with no more basketballs hitting people while theyre playing dance games and no more dance games machines facing each other and drowning each other out.

Bill, thank you for the consideration on the matter. I'd be happy to help move things or even get dance games people to do all the work under tech supervision if you prefer. Just want to get the layout exactly right as to make the experience optimal for everyone!

All good ideas!  I wish it was that simple.  Working on some concerns over visibility from the entrance, as that seems to be the potential hang up.  Will report back.  But like the ideas!  :-)
Thx

I'm here to announce that my pack of songs for the machine has been accumulated and undergone its alpha testing! That is to say, I have a pack of 45 great songs to go on the machine, many new and exciting charts and many old long-forgotten favorites! I have done a preliminary testing and syncing of these songs on the Acme machine (some of the older charts I had didn't have their original syncing so I had to resync) and have adjusted some misrated difficulties. You can all expect to see it make its way onto the machine within the next week or two! I hope to do final tests for syncing and such within the next few days! I wanted to also note that none of these charts are personally written by me; most of them are from random tournament or other packs I have gathered or old Groovestats charts no longer available for download there.

I really think you guys will enjoy this pack Smiley There's certainly something for everyone!
The demographics of the pack include:
13     9-rated charts
10   10-rated charts
12   11-rated charts
13   12-rated charts
5     13-rated charts
4     14-rated charts

And include such epic favorites as
Every Time we Touch (12)
Flower Forever (Marathon 13)
Heaven is a Place on Earth (Hard 9, Expert 12)
MaxX Unlimited (Full Version) (Long 12)
One Winged Angel (Marathon 13)
Ub3R R4ve (13)
2 Basshunter songs (Bass Creator, 12 and All I Ever Wanted, 11)
A Backstreet Boys song I guarantee everyone will play the hell out of (The Call, 10)
And much much more! Wink

Stay tuned and I will post the full list of songs and difficulties as it finishes its testing, or you can see the list and play the songs if you run into me at Acme in the next few days!

Just curious, but do most of you ignore custom charts that have a < 9 foot rating? I know there are a few out there that are fun charts that aren't intense, but it just doesn't seem to appeal to most people. I'm curious as to why.

Not 9, but I ignore anything that's < 7 and on the other end, > 13.

Part of the reason I'd mostly choose > 9 songs is for preparation to play alongside people who basically only choose 11s & 12s.

I still bring along a couple of my own 7s or 8s for play on the ITG machine each visit. But when I play DDR of course, then a majority of the songs I play are < 9 footers, since that's where 95% of the chart ratings reside XD
