So I was reading the Round 1 Financial notes and it caught my eye that a Round 1 is coming to Vancouver, WA in 2020!

I know it's far off, but I'm so excited that I won't have to drive 3 hours to Tukwila get my Bemani fix anymore!

Here's the Bemanistyle post about it.

https://www.bemanistyle.com/round1-quarter-3-2018-financial-report-store-opening-and-current-store-status-list/

And here's the financial notes (in Japanese): http://www.round1.co.jp/company/ir/pdf/saishin/20180808_tenbo.pdf

The important part is the "2020年 春頃 (仮称)バンクーバー店 /ワシントン州バンクーバー"

Great timing for me, though, as I'll be back from grad school in the summer/fall of 2020. Looks like I'll have a new favorite arcade to look forward to when I get back home. Cheesy (assuming all of the usual rhythm games will be there, that is)

This will be the best spot for music games in the Portland area once it opens.

Well, guess I'll be driving to Vancouver regularly.  Shame that this is opening up in Vancouver, I feel like it'd be more successful in Beaverton Mall or Washington Square.

Yes, but Round1s have requirements of the malls they're attached to.

They have to have a movie theater in the mall, is one of the requirements. There's also size and foot traffic requirements for the malls Round1s are attached to.

Good point - I didn't even know that a movie theater was a requirement.  I think Clackamas Town Center is the only mall left with a movie theater and that already has the D&B.

Yeah, Round 1s have strict requirements for locations, apparently, the requirements are: the population the mall serves and having other mall amenities.

The page with the requirements is here: https://www.round1usa.com/real-estate-information/

But these are the main requirements for Round 1s.

  • At least 150,000 population within 5 miles, 400,000 population within 10 miles, and 600,000 population within 20 miles.
  • Needs to be in enclosed super regional malls with more than 800,000 sqft GLA.
  • Must have direct access from parking lot and inside of the mall.
  • Having a movie theater is a plus.
  • Being close to food court is a plus.
  • 400-500 Parking Space (can be shared)

I really thought Lloyd Center would be a perfect location for a Round 1, especially with the giant remodeling they've been doing recently, but again one in Vancouver is still super close and much better than driving the 3.5hrs-ish to Tukwila, WA from Portland.

Oh, I thought a movie theater was a requirement.

Lloyd Center is a terrible location - no one wants to go there as evidenced by how the mall is *still* slowly dying even with the attempts at renovation.  Washington Square or Clackamas Town Center would really be better but the latter, as I said earlier, already has D&B.  Round1 would probably be possible at the old Sears location in WashSq but the only restaurant close by is Din Tai Fung and it's at the awkward end of the mall with no foot traffic.

This does not appear to be an April Fools prank.

Yeah, can confirm - my wife had the April 3 announcement pop up on her IG feed as well.

First 100 gets a t-shirt, apparently?

still waiting to be eligible for a vaccine in Oregon. If somebody goes, please post up as much info as possible about what games are there, thanks

I've gone a handful of times since it's opened and it's a great place for Bemani.

My only gripe is with all the rhythm games grouped together it can be quite a mush of music so headphones help a lot for the games that have headphone jacks.

I mainly focus on IIDX but all of the machines seem to be well serviced.

There's also someone that's maintaining Twitch streaming on a few of the machines if anyone is interested.
