STAGE CLEARED!

Ground Kontrol, March 31st.  Those of us who are 17 or older or have a legal guardian with us or are too good to get carded will most definitely go see The 300 afterwards.

General Disclaimer: Nothin' illegal please.

What's at Avalon?

heh, Ultracade is cool and all, but it's basically a licensed MAME. There's something more special about playing the games on the original arcade cabinets, as they were intended to be played (especially when said cabinets are older than most of the people posting in this thread). And besides, Ultracade doesn't have SPY HUNTER.

Anyway, here's what I play at Avalon: Air Hockey, DMX, DDR (duh), GF 2nd (lame), TD2, PANIC PAAAAAAAARK!!!!!, and pinball.
More variety at Avalon, but both are equally satisfying for me. GK packs a tougher punch on my wallet, but it's still cheaper than most places.

Pinball? Well, GK's pinball selection is probably one of the best to be found in the country. Just having an Addams Family that actually works correctly is good enough, but then there's also White Water, Theater of Magic, Demolition Man, and of course Black Knight 2000... but I only play that for the amazing audio. Still, there's so much variety there.

Getting back to Avalon, the only things I'd really play there are DDR, DMX 2nd, the Ultracade, and of course House of the Dead 4... but I already completely dominate all 10 scores on the HotD4 machine there, I prefer playing other machines in which I haven't completely raped the high score list. I'd play Thrill Drive 2 if the times weren't impossible to beat. Uhh... what else does Avalon have?

Yeah, I know about GK's Pinball.  It's apparently one of the biggest pinball collections in the world.
BK2000 wasn't working right when I went there about a week ago.  It just sat there playing medival metal while I tried to revive my mad Tetris skills 5 feet away from it.

You've covered just about everything interesting from Avalon, 'cept Panic Park. :<

I'm thinking about going, but I just have a question:

Is Gound Kontrol a new location or something? I never heard of it until now. :/

Oh, and I really suck at DDR, but whatever. Tongue

skill ain't a thing, yo!
P.S. do you play fighting games?

I wouldn't say I play them regularly, but I do enjoy playing them. What fighting games they have there? Smiley

P.S. What time does the get-together start?

The time will probably be about 2pm-6pm.  Who'd be up to doing what afterwards? (again, I'm thinking primarily food.  I don't know what's in the area though.)

Well, if we do end up going to the Avalon, there's a ton of good stuff:
It's a Beautiful Pizza
Laughing Planet, fucking ACE burritos
Cup and Saucer, it's a walk to Hawthorne, but if anyone else likes breakfast food for dinner I'm down
numerous gay coffee shops
Oasis Pizza, lol title

If we go to Ground Kontrol:
Sushi Takashi, as Phylicia knows this place is win and good for kaiten-zushi (conveyor belt style)
El Grillo, possibly the nastiest Mexican place in all of Portland, bathroom is in a strip club
Rocco's Pizza, old standby
The Roxy, a transvestite-themed diner, it's really awesome trust me

And if we go to Tilt, I guess we're in the Lloyd Center so there's your food options. (read: shit, shit, and Billy Heartbeat's)

Avalon and Ground Kontrol are both in hoods with plenty of cool stuff to do, but I think Ground Kontrol has more interesting games.  Then again, I haven't been to Avalon in a year and a half, so maybe it's different now?

There are also some godly Thai restaurants on Belmont. Smiley

I'm pretty sure we'd have plenty to do either way.

Here's an important question:
Who would be okay with GK regardless of whether or not their DDR machine is running?
I would be.

Also, does anyone have any issues with 31st?

31st is fine with me I think.

while it'd obviously be ideal if DDR was functional, I personally don't care that much because there's never anything I feel like playing on Extreme anyway. If I'm at Ground Kontrol, I want to play pinball and Spy Hunter. (and maybe own the shit out of Robotron)

Same.  The games there are ballin' and only a little more than Wunderland.

How many of you would be down for seeing The 300 afterwards? (I'm thinking possibly OmniMax)

I've got three YES votes down already (me, zeppy, Steve).
I assume everyone else who's anyone will say yes too, but whatever.

I didn't see 300 playing at the OMSI theater.  Is it playing there or is there another omnimax?  Cinetopia would be cool but it's in Vancouver.

I actually haven't checked.  I kind of just assumed that there'd have been a riot by now if it wasn't showing there.

I know they did produce it in regular and iMax film.  It would still be cool somewhere else.  I know there are some decent theatres in downtown Po, and I'm sure that they'd all be showing it.

http://www.omsi.org/visit/omnimax/

You can see whales, bears, dolphins but no 300.  They did the Superman remix when it came out but no R rated movies...They didn't do the matrix but they did Star Wars when it was rerererelated.  This sux because doing a search online there are a few omnimax theatres in the country that do show everything in that format...That would be sweet...

BTW if you've never heard of or bean to Cinatopia:

Leather seats and movies in HD <--- kick @$$...also 4 kinds of butter for your popcorn...I'm partial to the hazel nut.

Darn. =(

I did some research on Omnimax just now.  Apparently, they use a slightly different format.  They showed Harry Potter 4 at the one at OMSI, but it was really warped and weird.  I guess there are only a couple of Omnimax screens in the world?  I know there's one at the Smithsonian and one at OMSI.  There are about 280 IMAX screens worldwide though. xP

No dude, Living Room theaters is a joke. You pay a lot more to watch movies on a television set. There's also a bar, but that means jack shit for pretty much everyone on this forum.

I heard they just opened and they say on their web page they use dlp projectors and use DTS sound.  Nothing about t.v. sets.  I don't care much for bars as I don't drink.  I go to movie theaters to watch movies.  I know,  I'm a weirdo.  Oh and DDR if they have it.

I think I'm going to try to make this now that there's a promise of competition... I'd really like one, prizes or not. (though something like that in the future would be swell)

That said, I just had my wisdom teeth out yesterday, and if all goes according to plan I'm set to be hungover Saturday morning, so it might not happen. But here's an unreliable RSVP anyway.
