I dunno I never had a problem after 6pm on Wednesdays.  After 7pm a fair amount of PIU players gather (thankfully now that both USBs work, 2 people with USB sticks can go up at the same time again), but DDR is often open.

The new DDR pads looked and felt solid, but 1P side has some problematic sensors.  The left arrow is flaky when it comes to holding down the arrow and up is a crap shoot.  2P side worked like a dream.

Also confirmed PIUP2's USBs both work... and Dream to Nightmare is where fun goes to die.

We couldn't replace all the sensors yet but I replaced the worse ones. The right side is working almost perfectly but like you said, the left still is a bit flaky. They are still 100x better than they were before so thats a plus.

UPDATE: The PIU machine is now set to $1.50 per play  Embarrassed

I'm not sure if this is intentional or what so I emailed the Big Al's info email address

For 3 songs? wow that's pretty steep.
$1.25 is already pushing it

Aww, I was seriously considering going there today until I read that. Sad Hope they get that straightened out. $1.25's already stretching out my budget so far.

Edit: Screw it, I'm probably gonna go anyway and register for the tournament because eh.

I just received a reply from the arcade manager this morning.
Quote
Good Morning Karl,

I sincerely apologize for this mistake. Wednesday we switched the game to free play for anyone registered in the Pump It Up Pro 2 tournament. However, when switching it back, someone accidently chose the incorrect price. I’ve switched it back to our regular price of $1.25. Thank you for letting me aware of this.

So all seems to be fixed now, yay!

1P on the DDR SN2 machine could use some work, or at least get the sensors cleaned and/or moved around.  When I played last Wednesday the Up arrow frequently dropped when I was tapping it quickly and then there was the time that I had Left+Right freeze notes drop out on me.  I'm 215lbs with size 13 feet. It's a bad sign about the condition of the pads when freeze arrows break

Besides the general badness of the 1P side, I believe the Right arrow on the 2P side is starting to go bad. It dropped a few freezes on me, and gave me at least one complete miss. The 1P side does need a serious overhaul in comparison though. Y'all should consider doing the "business card trick" at least to see if it makes the sensors a bit more responsive:

Thanks for tip. I couldnt get the budget to replace all the sensors but this might get us by for now or untill I can convince someone to buy X2  Tongue

Last night we shuffled a bunch of games around and Pump is now in the corner to the right of the redemption center and DDR is in the same space but turned around. New pump location is much quieter and because its in a corner, the sound is a bit louder which is pretty sweet.

I do like how loud the Pump machine is now, but the light on the ceiling overhead is a little bit distracting. It's not bad enough to cause horrible glare on the screen, but still

Anybody play here on a regular basis? DDR or pump?  I used to play itg in Idaho/SLC 4+ years ago and would love to play again.  I'm currently in Tigard.

Welcome to the forums Dave.  Wednesday nights are a big night for games at Big Al's because all of the games are half price.  I always see and/or play with at least 3-4+ other players; usually PIU because it's so new to the area and currently popular, but occasionally I also see some DDR players.

usually PIU because the SN2 is in bad shape.  2P side is passable, but barely anyone even bothers with 1P anymore.

Well general notice: The USB drives on PIU Pro 2 are acting screwy if they'll read your thumb drives at all.  Also there are rumors that they've corrupted the data on a drive or two already (BBH & I were safe after Wednesday).  The techs know at least.

Also I approached a tech about Big Al's getting DJ Max Technika 2 and while he loved the game, he made it well known that the manager wants more redemption than anything else.  Also of interest was his complaints about being stressed to try to keep everything in working order with limited time and resources.  These are warning flags to me.  Enjoy Big Al's while you can, after the new arcade smell wears off I have a feeling nothing will ever get fixed unless it is the most minor of things.

Thanks to a man on the inside, we now have almost all the unlocks in for Pro 2. The Boulafacet code didn't work for some reason. Anyway there's six new songs and some new Progressive/Gauntlet courses. Yay!

(DDR machine... still not in the best shape)

So is this one of the last places with usable pads on machines?  I remember going to the Bullwinkles and almost every game there had some sort of issue.  I had to play on Beginner since the P2 Right Green Arrow (for the menu) was broken and the P2 Down Arrow was broken too.  And now that Tilt! no longer has an ITG2 machine...

The P1 side on Bi Gals' Supernova 2 is not very playable at all. The P2 side still has a really weak Right arrow, and I think Down has been going bad too... so yeah it's getting worse and worse.

At this point I don't think there's any really "good" DDR machine in the Portland area at all any more. Maybe one of the Century Theaters has a decent Supernova 1, but because they seem to always require buying a ticket just to get into the arcade, it's not so easy to check up on the condition or if you just feel like playing some DDR. Oh, and there's the DDR X2 at John's Incredible Pizza, the pads were good last time I was there but that always costs $9+ to get into as well.

The Pump Pro 2 at Big Al's still works perfectly, though!

I live in the Beaverton area and I just got my ITG2 upgrade cab up and running. I'm going to start having meetups a few Fridays a month for all the local players to come play (for free)...to at least try and keep the four-panel music game community alive around here.  Expect a more-detailed thread about my machine in the next few days. Just as a heads-up, I went to Big Al's last Tuesday and both DDR SN2 and PIU PRO2 are now only $1.00 to play.  PIU has been moved from the corner it was in to other side of the arcade.  It feels like there is more airflow and it is a lot cooler where it is now as opposed to the corner it was in.

Went here Sunday.  PIU is still in the corner and is at a great sound level.  Not many really play the games near it either.  DDR:SN2 is in a weird area and is kind of in the way of everything but the music is still fine.

Pads on both sides for both machines seemed great.  Did a couple of 8's on PIU and some 9's on SN2.  I am clearly too fat for these games though, holy shit I get out of breath so fast.  Must find a decent pad for home use that isn't those DDRgame pieces of shit.
