They seem pretty cool at BackSpace.  I think that, as long as we all bought our drinks (read: godly soda selection) and donuts there, they'd probably be fine with it.  Maybe one of us could check with them first and see if they'd mind?

Of course, if it is nice outside, it would definitely be better to go to some park or park-esque location.  I could bring some of my discs (I have a long-distance trick disc, an Ultimate Frisbee Disc, and 2 golf discs) and we could toss those around too, if anyone's interested.

Thomas Kemper root beer and cream soda
Another really amazing cream soda
Some really great orange soda
Jolt (the only energy drink I saw there)
And a bunch of stuff I didn't pay much attention to.

And I repeat: Voodoo Doughnuts.
I wanna Tex-Ass. =D

Hell, I think even I've AAA'd Irresistable Light on Pop4 once or twice, and those would be at Avalon or Milwaukie Wunderland back when my PA was complete balls (now it's only semi-balls).

I noticed you guys talking about arranging some kind of potluck during an upcoming meetup. Ground Kontrol can host such an event! The simplest way to arrange this would be to rent the stage area. We arrange tables and seating, you bring your own food/snacks and buy drinks from us. It's $25/hour for this (see http://groundkontrol.com/venue/rentals.php for more details.) Just wanted to throw that idea out there. Of course, if you don't want to go to that much trouble and would just like to bring in a dozen donuts or something small, that's fine, too. Just keep in mind if someone else is renting the stage area you may not be able to use it.

We're also improving our drink and snack selection: we've added a few varieties of Clif Bars, and Tim's Cascade chips are going to be added soon (in fact, the truck may be out front right now...). We're replacing Rockstar energy drink with Viso's energy drink. If you have any other suggestions, feel free to let me know!

OK, that's enough spam from me. If you're interested in arranging something like this, please call us at 503-796-9364 or email me at art AT groundkontrol.com.

Ooh, flash of idea.

So, my grandparents go bowling every week, and what they have is this handicap based on your history, so basically the winners of every game are those who are improving the most, instead of those with just skillz.

I'm thinking it would be cool to have something going on like that for us.  We would have a DP% handicap based on, say, 85%.  So, if your DP average is 60%, and you come and score 70% DP on something, your final DP would come out to 95%.  If your DP average is above 85%, then you'd calculate your handicap as (Y - 85)/(2/3).    I'd say have the DP average calculated based on 7- and 8-footers.  I think Noah will be able to clear at that level soon, and I don't think anyone else has trouble with them.  If someone has a DP avg of 99% or more on 7's and 8's, then they calculate their DP average for 9's, adding 6% to that percentage.  So, if you have a 99.8% DP average on 7's, a 99.5% DP average on 8's, and a 97.5% DP average for 9's, your average would be 103.5%.

Every get-together, we'd have a 2-part tourney.  There would be a raw skill competition, and an improvement competition.  The 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in each would get some number of points, and all other participants would get 1 point for participating in both or 1/3 of a point for participating in one.  Each time, perhaps we'd all throw $1 each in per tourney we participate in, and then that goes into a big community pot.  At the end of the year, the pot (the money, not the marijuana) would go to the 4 people with the most points for the year.

This is all just an idea I came up with now; I can work out some more details based on field data later if you guys would be interested in this.

For this time, I think we discuss the idea, work out kinks, calculate the numbers, and develop our averages.

Maybe not best, but it's one of my better ones.

I'll open up notepad and work out some details.
If anyone else shows interest (which I'm pretty sure people will), we can start a new topic for it.

sorry to say that I most definitely would NOT enter an "improvement" tourney - reason being of course that my skill level plateaued a long time ago and I never really ever get better. Ever.

It's certainly an interesting idea in theory, but not something I'd want to do now.

Smiley That's a good idea, DancingTofu! Smiley

Actually, I can already clear certainly not all, but some 7-8 footer tracks on my home DDR SuperNova system. My grades have varied widely on this level of difficulty (about 12 A's, 20 B's, 20 C's and some yet to be cleared) so that means I'm still adjusting to this particular level, but have some degree of capability.

At this point, I'd surely rank at or near the bottom in a general tournament simply given I'm at spring-chicken status compared to the rest of you, LOL, but I'd come out stronger on the improvement front.

Of course, I'm still a complete neophyte when it comes to arcade dance pad play (I'm almost always playing on a soft pad and have only played four times on an arcade version a while ago) but I'm also spared of the frustration of the pad moving around as I am playing and getting avoidable Boos and such by playing on a hard, grounded surface so I imagine I'd perform better on a metal pad anyway. Smiley

Sincerely,
Noah Eaton
