It is in fact beautifully, poetically insane.
I have no idea where it's being torrented, but the movie and the anime series are now being sold as a bundled edition for $45-$50 bucks. If you have the money, it's worth the purchase.

It's really a frighteningly real potrayal of the probelms in modern japan. It's an amazing social commentary. And yes, it is fucking insane. It's easily my favorite anime, with now and then here and there right behind it.

It's interesting that you say it, because at the last time I watched it I wasn't even watching in that context - I knew virtually nothing about Japan. Instead, I saw it as a commentary on society's weirdos, the superhuman and the subhuman and the problems of both. As well as a wide host of problems of ordinary people.
I should watch it again now that I'm more edjimmicated. I'd probably think something completely different.
What is "Now and then/Here and now"? I've never heard of it.

I guessed it was an anime. Let me rephrase: what is it ABOUT and why do you like it?
