Alright, this thing's going to be a challenge thread of a few different varieties.  i figure getting some competition and motiviation for higher scores and stuff could be fun.

First off, it'd be cool to give out personal challenges to each other, ala GrooveStats(But since nobody really checks them anymore...).  For me at least, Nick and other friends challenges to me always made me get better.

Secondly, actual player challenges to one another would be hella fun, not to mention encourage everyone to actually get together and hang out, instead of just play and talk about our scores here.  Besides, it always fun to see two players go tournament style against each other.

Speaking of tournament, we should start thinking about throwing a tournament too.

It'd be on the ITG2 machine, if we have one.  Seems like people only go and play SN every once in awhile...Whereas there's quite a few ITG players(quite a few that don't post here either).  Plus getting Bumpers to allow tourneys is a bitch.

I'd hate to make those goths look bad.

Steve wants to plan a tourney.  kkat is somewhere else.

IDK....ITG brings back bad memories, I've been giving up easier, and I'm done making stepcharts.

If I want to play DDR, I'll play r21!

I'd be interested in an ITG tourney. I've been itching for some sort of competition all summer.
I do have to say I like this challenge thread idea though Cheesy

Competing at arrow stomping is like competing at golf or free throw contests. You're not "beating" someone, you're just doing as well as you can and hoping it's better than the other guy.

Okay, he got 100%. I'm not saying that's not impressive. Shit, chances are I'll never do that. But that doesn't negate the fact that he potentially could have done regardless of the presence of someone else next to him. No matter how well or poorly you do, it's not directly affecting the other player in anything other than a psychological manner, if anything.

There's a big difference between racing with another person and "racing" by way of time trials. That's all music game "tournaments" are. It's a high score contest that someone decided to slap brackets in for some ungodly reason.

I have never understood what was going through the first person's head that decided to put people "against" each other. That's not how time trial races work, that's not how golf works, that's not how anything else that works in such a manner works. Brackets and single/double elimination, etc. are for actual head-to-head competition, not side-by-side.

Oh, wait, hold on. What I obviously actually mean, despite all of what I just said, is "OMG WHO FUKKEN CARES ITS ALL GAY ARROW STOMPING GOD UR DUM"

Yeah I kinda see your point about the "against" part of the tournaments in the last few years.... oh hell... ever since I remember.

Since you have this idea now, how would you run it...?

My kind of idea is to have everyone that shows up... Qualify on a song. of RANDOM choice.
top 1/2 get to pick songs... bottom 1/2 dont... ok.... so....

16 show up... 8 highest % of rank on random song... are in the group that can choose.
THEN.

lowest person chooses a song... all 16 play. lowest 2 scores are out. 14 left.... 7th highest on qual chooses a song. lowest 2 are out. so on and so forth till last 4 are left maybe.... then do a 3 song set highest % wins?
This would be alot better in my opinion... but it also takes longer this way... since you have to do each round.

THERE ARE MAJOR FLAWS I am already seeing... but i have to go back to work... and also have to take a dump.
Ill do it later. bye!

ok so make it so the highest person of the past round picks the next song maybe? and you cant pick 2 songs in any 4 consecutive rounds... pick going to next highest with this qualification.
4th round, 12 people left, 1st of round 3 chose a song 2nd round, 2nd in round 3 chose first round song and 3rd hasnt picked a song... person that was 5th of round 3 (had possibly been first after round 2) chose the song for round 3. so the 3rd place of round 3... gets to chose round 4's song.

this is wayyyyy wacky... but actually see how this would work. I see potential high % sandbagging... for situational song choice later in brackets... or maybe highest % chooses the song after 50% of the people are out. after all in a tourny of 16 that would only mean 2 rounds of the highest % score of the last round before it. then 4 players left...  play a set all and each chose a song maybe.

Come on people toss ideas.

Maybe the first round wouldnt elim anyone, and the 2nd round would drop the lowest 1/3rd out. So you dont get terribly randomed or something. Would give a sort of double elim feel to it.

What you think cale?

I just held that SN tourny here in Pullman a few months back. It went really well and the placement of the players was absolutely PERFECT. Although Xexy seems to think DDR is the anti-christ, maybe he (and Diggit6) can attest to the very close matches that we had (mostly thanks to a good choice for qualifing song and good seeding of players in the brackets).

I'm not saying I'm a pro at organizing tournaments, but if you'd like some help or ideas, I'm here.

Oh, how I love the lols...the first time I read through your post, I thought you were talking about the expert steps and was like, "...".

I also only play in skate shoes.  The flat bottoms make it easier to do fast streams.  Whenever I wear tennis shoes or whatever else, I always get the bottoms of my shoes caught on the pad brackets.

As Tavis would say, "VANS!"
