What do you guys use to play Japanese games?  A JP PS2, Modchip?

Apparently I use a magic swap slide disk.  It seemed safe at first, then some of my games wouldn't load like Bully.

Now, it'll only load dancy foot games. :?

JPS2 for me.  I know I'd screw up modding.

I kinda want to fliptop-mod my sister's PS2, 'cause it's broken anyway. Tongue

I'm looking for DrumMania now and there seems to be no reliable place.
Reason:  No credit card.  Checks are OK.

Besides, a lot of sites are OUT OF STOCK.  Bullshit...

www.toysnjoys.com Has it, and they take checks. They're who I got my modded PS2 and IIDX stuff from back in the day. Very reliable.

I use a JPS2, not for purist reasons or mod-phobia reasons but just because I used to only play JP games anyway.  Actually I still do.

If you want to play a lot of JP games, it's a good investment.  It's not like it costs too much more, and you also don't have to void warranties by modding.  If you're going to play a lot of both region games (and burned games), go with a mod chip (pre modded or self install is up to how confident you are in yourself... only minor knowledge in soldering is needed, really)

Okay guys,

My PS2 is a refurbed fat.  The warranty is definitely void.  I'm starting to get really bored of the BMUS songlist and I want to be able to make edits for the Avalon machine while I still can.  What I want is a picture of what an installed mod chip looks like.  I can solder fairly well, but I'm kind of hesitant because things I take apart, modify, and put back together tend to stop working after 6 months or so, and I don't want to risk that with my PS2.

Are you kidding? It's not like the PS2 isn't the most well-documented, most photographed modded console on earth. Google it for crying out loud.

Oh, and, launch jpn PS2. Still truckin', never had any problems.

Who the hell takes a photo of a PS2?  They're, like, ugly.

Whatever, I'll give it a shot I guess.

He means the insides. You know, the part where the mod chip goes. I would imagine people take pictures of the inside because they want people to have some sort of a clue where to start soldering.

Or you could solder it to the outside of the case. Lemme know how that goes.

Okay, so it looks like my warranty sticker is still intact, which makes me hesitant to bust it open, especially since the disc drive's been starting to make sounds that suggest a dying motor.

Oh, I also searched for pics and found absolutely nothing.

Will most mod kits come with installation instructions, or am I supposed to magically know what 23 little metal things to solder the wires to on the PS2?

And can someone give me a link to one that's in stock, no swap, and works for import games?  The DDRFreak FAQ are oooooooooooold.

Are you fucking retarded? Your warrenty sticker is still in tact? UM, HELO THAR GENIUS- MODDING YOUR PS2 WILL VOID IT ANYWAY.

Searching found "absolutely nothing?" What on god's green earth did you search for?

Step one:
Go to google.com

Step two:
search for "ps2 modchip" click "I'm feeling lucky" (this is modchip.com, by the way. Who woulda thunk it?)

Step three:
click "Playstation 2" on the fucking obvious left tab

Step four:
Click "Pictures" on the BRIGHT ORANGE TAB

Step five:
SEARCH THROUGH EVERY CONSOLE REVISION WITH PICTURES OF SOLDER POINTS IN HIGH RESOLUTION DETAIL.

Step six:
drown in a fire and never visit the internet again.

Are you that much of a fucking ignorant and useless piece of shit?  I specifically said I was willing to modify it because I presumed my warranty had already been voided, and it looks like it hasn't, which is why, as I clearly said, I'm hesitant to mod it.

As for google, I search "PS2 Modchip" hit "Images" and clicked search.  I'm sorry I didn't know to go to a specific site.  I'm glad you gave me 2 extra steps though, instead of just saying to go to modchip.com.  That should really help me out.

Working on the whole drowning in fire thing.  Can you test it out first and make sure it works though?
