Ooh!!!  This is a good deal.  I think it would be great for ACME or Narrows to get this.  I would personally donate like 100 bucks or so to fund this if need be.  Anyone else think it would be wise to get this?

OH MY GOD.
I just figured out a candidate for IIDX in Portland.
GK.
I'll talk to them about it.  If Portland is ever going to get a IIDX machine in one of its arcades, I'll be damned if it isn't GK.
The only reason I can think of why they wouldn't get one is space.  Their machines are already packed pretty tight as it is.

I propose we change the title of this thread to cream pants over DD thread.

The kit is on it's way, but do not get excited!  It looks like our machine is not updateable do to it's I/O board.  We shall see when the kit arrives.

Hopefully the I/O board thing isn't much of an issue.  I'm sure you could easilly sell the kit off if it didn't work.

Bill, I talked to Landon on MSN this morning.. He says to upgrade it you should have a USB I/O board.. although I don't know what that is.  Just relaying that message to you.  Oh, and E-spots Distorted just cleared customs.. so it should be installed very very soon =]

Argh!  Looks like the kit is NOT going to work, and is already being sent here.  Sorry guys, I tried.  Big cash outlay, and no 2DX I am guessing.  I thought the hardware kit was able to upgrade any previous version, but I am hearing that is not the case.  WTF?

By the way, I am going to be busy and not around the computer much for a couple days.  But Metroid is up on the situation, and he has my blessings to fill you all in if he so chooses.  Once again, sorry this does not look real promising.  But let's keep the hope that possibly it will work out.

I wonder if a new I/O board is hard to find and/or expensive?  It wasn't like all cabinets got replaced when newer machines came out, so surely it's possible to find just a board through some means.  I mean I really don't know, just speculating.

edit: Okay, this is only optimistic speculation, but I think the USB I/O board is part of the kit you bought?  If ~8th didn't have this PCB but there are a multitude of arcades that upgraded (usually to 11 or 12, but again, I don't know this for fact -- those cali and hawaii arcades may have just gotten brand new machines), then it seems logical to think that the hardware kit (which is now obsolete, as everyone knows) includes it.  Then of course there's the fact that Landon knows what he's talking about =\

I wonder if, at a pinch, there's a third party solution?

hawaii arcade

that machine started with substream, then became 6th when that was new, then went to 9th, and without needing new hardware went to 12th and now 13th.

seems like you could get the part from someone else...unless they didn't include it with the new hardware for 2dx gold to prevent exporting used distorted kits to drum up sales of the US gold...but there has to be a way to order it from konami, it could break in any machine for whatever reason.

keepin' my fingers crossed! Cheesy

Okay, here is the confirmed bad news.  If you read the origianl ebay auction description for this kit, you will see that it is supposed to update any 2DX, including 8th style.  Not the case at all, and the auction for the next kit that was put up by the same seller explains this.  That is why we felt safe in pulling the trigger and buying the kit.  But we are screwed.  If anyone wants the kit cheap, let me know.  What a nightmare this turned out to be.  Feel like a big ole hog is in the ass.  Argh!  Sorry guys.

Yeah, this pretty much sucks.

Bill, does the kit still actually include the BemaniPC hardware itself? If so, I might be interested. How much are we talking about here?

Taking any and all offers into consideration.  Looks like it's safe to assume this is only the update kit, NOT the new hardaware system.  Sucks, as this cuts in to the upgrade fund for other future potential Bemani purchases.  A source in Japan was saying that we would have everything we needed if we in fact had the entire hardware system.  Looks to be an upgrade kit for 9th and above.  But I am still kicking around and trying to figure it all out.  More details next week maybe.  Was quoted 8000.00 today for the stuff we would need to make it work.  Got to watch those ebay deals.  The seller claimed that it is our job to make sure this would work before using the Buy It Now on ebay.  But it sounded like a safe bet when the auction stated it would update all versions, INCLUDING 8th style.  But after buying it, it turns to a basic "tough shit", it's yours now.  But I must say, up until now ebay dealings have been pretty positive.

@Bill:

If you wanted to get legal with the seller, I'm sure you would have a good case.

First off the guy violated eBay's terms of service:
Quote

But that really doesn't matter; it all comes down to the misrepresentation of the item.

Sellers are required to have accurate descriptions. If an item is misrepresented, the seller has errored [link].
Quote
When a seller lists an item on eBay, and a buyer bids for and wins that item, the seller and buyer have entered into a contract. Both members are expected to honor that contract. In accordance with that contract, the seller may not:

    * Fail to deliver an item for which payment was accepted.
    * Significantly misrepresent an item by not meeting the terms and item description outlined in the listing.
    * Refuse to accept payment for an item at the end of a successful sale.

The description said it would "allow any IIDX machine (including 8th and below)" to be upgraded, which simply was not the case. He didn't state it would only update certain machines, he said any. Since it won't work on ours, he obviously misrepresented the item.

You should check out eBay's "Item Not Received or Significantly Not as Described" Process [Link]
It is the process for contesting a purchase like this, where false information was in the description that led to the purchase, and had the item description not had the false information then the purchase wouldn't have been made.

Just because you bought it (even before asking questions) doesn't mean you have to keep it. The item was misrepresented to the point that a question asked to the seller would have been the same answer as in the description; or it would have been assumed no question would have needed to be asked as the description already answered it.

In any small claims or legal court if the product purchased does not do what was advertised, then the plaintiff has a right to his money back. This is the same thing here.

You could tell the seller you want a refund for the item (minus shipping costs) before going through eBay, if he would be up for that, but make sure he doesn't get the item and run without returning the payment.

This is, if you want to go through this process. I would, but that's just me.  Tongue

Bill, a message from Landon:

"Just wanted to clear up a few things (after reading your posts on pnw).  This is not an upgrade kit for IIDX DistorteD. It is the actual hardware for the machine. An upgrade kit only includes the security plug and the hard drive (including banner, speaker pops, etc). The arcade I picked this up from informed me it is the full kit from their machine, everything taken out after they upgraded to GOLD. I was informed later on about the I/O board that was needed for the security plug, which they told me should be in all machines. I did change the description in my second auction to avoid other people running into the same trouble as you. It was not my intention to screw anyone over. I listed everything that was included in this auction. I'm praying not all hope is lost yet. I am in talks with the arcade I am dealing with who are trying to get me an extra I/O board or two for me. I want this to work for you as much as you want it to, because this was in no way meant to be any kind of scam. I've been a fan of IIDX for years, and I know how many people there are eager to play it. To all the people reading this on PNW: I'm sorry for all the confusion here. Many people know me as kaizoku from bemanistyle, and many people can vouch for my reliability. I am doing everything in my power to get this working. For this particular kit, the money is not going to myself (hence why I needed to get it shipped out). The arcades here are interested in selling the kits worldwide, because most arcades here don't need/want DistorteD anymore. I am determined to get that I/O board, and if/when I do, it will be out of my own pocket money."

There you go.  I can vouch for him.  It was a mistake.

Update:  the kit arrived.  It is the complete computer and graphics.  Will not work with what we have.  I am guessing that as part of the original hardware system update kit, you would also get the metal box with the I/O board, as well as some extra cabling I would guess, as the wiring connectors in the machine now do not seem proper to fit the new stuff.  Will research what all we would need and hopefully find it somehow, if not too expensive and assuming we can ever find it.  Sorry guys, but just wanted to update you all.  In the meantime, if anyone has any interest in the kit, we would gladly sell it off.  I am guessing lots more would be needed to get it running.  But like I say, we are looking in to it.
