Location tests start on the 27th and 29th

1. CAT'S EYE arcade in Machida, Tokyo.
2. ROUND ONE arcade in Fukuoka, Fukuoka.

Not that any of us will be attending.  Heres hoping for some good stuff out of this style.

Hey there,
Sorry but I didn't know where else to ask this and I didn't want to impose by making a new topic.  I'm new to this forum and was referred here by "Uhhh" over at Gameworks last weekend.

I was wondering if there was even a single beatmaniaIIDX cabinet located anywhere in the state of Washington.

I know Acmebowl had 8th Style for a while, and I did have the opportunity to play it once when I went with some friends to Frys.  Then I heard they relocated it to Tacoma Narrows so I drove there a couple of times to mess around with it, but when I e-mailed management asking if the game was still there a few weeks ago, they said they already sold it to some foundation over in the east coast.

If there's even one arcade here that has a IIDX cabinet, I swear I will bring my next paycheck over there and put half of it into the game.

As for SIRIUS itself, what do you think about the fact they are incorporating key and scratch holds now?  IIDX up until this point has been played exclusively with no holds but that's about to change.

I'm sure Konami will include ways to disable holds though as an additional modification of some kind.  I don't see why they wouldn't do such a thing, considering they have auto-scratch.  It'll probably be something like "Auto-Hold."

There's no IIDX in Washington, but CHQ in Burnaby, BC and E-spot in Richmond, BC have IIDX as far as I know. If you have a passport, going up there is pretty easy and quick.

CHQ has a DJ Troopers that has a funky coin slot; just ask any of the locals for help unjamming it if stuff gets caught. It's in great condition otherwise, though. E-spot has a somewhat mediocre Distorted.

If you can make it, visit on the weekend of August 16th. There's a huge rhythm gaming conference thing at CHQ that weekend so there'll be plenty of IIDX players for you to meet! I myself used to be quite hardcore into IIDX (probably the best I got was AAAing a few lower tier 12s), but I haven't played recently.

Unfortunately that won't be a possibility.  I'd love to be able to attend though, as the only hardcore IIDX gamer I know of in person is myself.

You can AAA 12s?  I'm lucky if I can AAA anything period... My timing is pretty shit-tier.  I think I've only got maybe 3 or 4 AAAs under my belt, and I believe they're in the 7-8 range.  I can play up to some 11s though, but it's another thing entirely getting decent scores on them.

By the way, I'm starting Autumn classes at UWT this year so I'll probably end up moving into Tacoma around mid/late September.  Where does the arcade scene usually hang out around that area?

There are plenty of people who play IIDX in a fairly "hardcore" way around here, it's just that we all play at home. If you want to meet some local IIDX players, the best bet is just to meet up somewhere like ACME and then go to somebody's house afterwards or something.

My husband can AAA 9s and lower (or at least could until his carpel tunnel started acting up and he stopped playing for fear of wrist surgery); he can hard clear some 11s. I know for a fact he's nowhere near the top tier for this area, so there have got to be some good players somewhere (aside from just Kevin!)

That's good to know.  I've been living in Bremerton for several years now and the arcade scene here is basically dead in the water.  It'll be great to actually have an opportunity to meet Bemani players when I move out to Tacoma.

All of my friends think I'm some kind of crackhead for playing IIDX  (Or any other Bemani game), but frankly I'm not good at all.  Like I said I've only AAA'd maybe 3 or 4 songs tops, and I can't even pass any level 12 songs except for Innocent Walls.

I consider myself a hardcore player only because I take the game seriously enough to want to get better at it every day.  Whether I'm actually good at it though is another thing entirely...

Sorry to hear about that regarding your husband.  I'm pretty sure that at the rate I'm on the computer + playing video games, I'll be in the same boat fairly soon.

Yeah, I think we're all getting to carpal tunnel soon. Especially for how much I play drummania, my hands should go out any day now.

But yeah, if you want to meet most active users n this site in the Seattle area, just come to ACME Bowl in tukwila. It's the cool place for Bemania kids Grin
and if your in Seattle, try and avoid the gameworks there. I'm sure you've heard that many times already. But you can find me there every now and then playing drummania (which is honest to god the only reason to go, for me at least) and Uhhh(Mike) is there every so often too.

Gameworks is my only option for some decent Pop'n action, and that probably won't work out either when I move away from the ferry docks.

I've also been getting really addicted to Drummania lately, although I'm still stuck in the mid30s-low40s.  I'm quite bad at it, haha

I'm actually going to stop by Gameworks tomorrow; I'll probably arrive around 12:30-ish.  But yeah, I've heard plenty of great stories regarding gameworks, but it's a whole lot better than the arcade where I live.  Kitsap Mall Silver Coin has Percussion Freaks 4 and both the far left and far right pads are completely dysfunctional.   Aww yeah

edit: and yeah, Mike was the guy that referred me here.  I'm late to the party, not even knowing this site existed and I've lived in WA state for way too long now.

I found out today that my friend Brandon has my IIDX controller still.  I had been wondering where it was...

Maybe I'll give this game another shot.  I'll probably need to pick up some other versions or bootleg one for my computer if I want to get past 6's though.  BMUS gets kind of tiresome.

BMUS is decent if you're a complete beginner that's just starting out.  All of the notecharts are way easier compared to the import versions, the grading scale is much more lenient and it's simply more accessible and cheaper to buy.  It's a good way to find out whether you will be interested in IIDX or not in the first place.

However it's highly recommended that you check out the japanese versions once you've gained any slight interest in the game.  They come with way more (and better) songs, better interfaces and more options to mess around with.

Also owning something like this helps tremendously:

But it's really only worth owning if you're truly obsessed with the game, considering the price tag that comes along with it.

As soon as Kevin scores me a new blue button, and I figure out why I keep blowing monitors, I'd totally be willing to have a pop'n gathering here. I have a Fever machine in my kitchen. We can have a 100 second kitchen battle! You know, since Gameworks sucks and all.

I don't have any ASCs, but Tony and I do have every IIDX from 3-Happy Sky, so if anyone who doesn't own them wants to come try, I'm sure that'd be cool.

You own a Fever cabinet?  That's awesome, where do you even go to order stuff like that?

If you ever do organize some kind of meet up, I'll totally bring my FP7 with me.  Can't be anytime soon though until I get situated in Tacoma.

Yeah, we bought it off of a friend of a friend... or something like that. It's not new or anything... we personally think it's way cooler to have a machine that was played with in Japanese arcades anyway. Wink

I don't really see what makes IIDX ASCs that exciting.  If I really wanted one, I'd probably just make my own based on my $10 home controller.  I'm pretty satisfied with just the home controller though.  The dimensions are perfect, the sensitivity is near-perfect, the feel is great, the portability is wonderful, and it's cheap.  I would also be cheap to go and get another one to play doubles.  I'm sure the ASC's are better, but I can't see myself getting that much more use out of them, even if I was obsessed with the game.

If you're satisfied with the home controllers, then there is no reason to buy the DJDaos.  There's a very specific reason why one would spend hundreds of dollars for just a series of games, and it's a very indulgent, obsessive kind of thought process.  I played on an arcade machine and got spoiled by it to the extent that I wanted to have that same feel at home.

For those that are huge fans of IIDX, purchasing a DJDao is a guilty pleasure.  Admittedly though, I did notice a huge increase in my score average soon after my controller arrived.  Microswitches are the way to go~

Also portability was an issue for me, and that is exactly why I settled for the FP7.  The larger controllers are not only much more expensive, but become quite hefty to carry around as well.  The largest and most expensive DJDao controller weighs in at over 50 pounds...

I'm pretty much never going to touch an arcade cabinet anytime soon unless WA state gets another cabinet in, which is exactly why I decided to get the next best thing I could possibly purchase.

You can also easily make your own IIDX controller with parts from Akihabara-Shop or elsewhere.  Just make sure you get the correct dimensions- The JKOCs/UKOC's button and turntable spacings are -not- arcade accurate, unlike DJDaos.

I'm lazy and went with the easier route, and besides I wanted something much more professional looking; something you would be proud to show off.  I don't have the knowledge or ability to make such a thing.  Sad

I think I prefer playing on the KOC because I'm used to the spacing of the TT. It always throws me off a little when I play in the arcade. Now a JP KOC with Sanwas...that would definitely be my style!

You can make it. >:3  I saw a youtube video of someone playing a JKOC with sanwa keys.  You'll have to extend the base of the controller an inch or so though since the switches will be taking up a whole lot more space than the plungers.

I still like my JP KOC. It still works fine in all of the 4-5 years it has been working. Also, RIP 8th style AC at Acme.
