I'm thinking about picking up a DDR universe bundle so I can gut one of the soft pads and attempt to create an Xbox 360 to Cobalt Flux adapter.

Anyone have any suggestions on which Universe title I should get?

The Universe series actually isn't too bad. The first two are alright. Mainly just crossover stuff from the PS2 versions, but 3 is by far the best. DDR Universe 3 is the game Dukamok worked on. So a lot of the songs have pretty good charts. More ITGish than DDR, but not ridiculous. Except there are a couple of 10's that have the dumbest charts. But if you do pick up one of the games, I recommend either Universe 2 or 3

Um....ok.

Do you have at least one softpad for the 360 that comes with them? If so, you've got yourself a deal.

I'll wait until I get the softpad mod thing done. Then I'll hit ya up once I have a way to play them with my CF.

I loved DDR Universe until randomly lost all of my quest mode progress, which prompted me to sell it. This happened to other people, as well.

Oh goody another excuse to hype the DDR Universe games!

DDR Universe 1 is great, but most of its best songs are transplants.  The charts are also fun, but it lacks many very challenging 10s (Return of Toe Jam Oni, Maximizer Oni, and even I can do Grandolin Oni on a real pad)

DDR Universe 3 is amazing! A+++++++++++ would purchase again. The strength this time is in a lot of original songs.  I also recommend the song pack because unlike DDRU1&2 it features a lot of originals instead of existing DDR songs.

It's a shame the 360 can't play DDR Ultramix 2, especially with the song packs, because that one was equally amazing.  hrm.. with original Xbox Live service about to be discontinued, I wonder if the old Ultramix songs will be lost to time now...

Not if my ITG cabinet can help it. We've got all those songs on it. I just want to get my flux working on my 360 so my GF can play and get some gamerscore achievements. Thanks for the input!

From an email conversation recently:
Quote
One of those things I've been looking for is an adapter that allows me to use Playstation 2 controllers on my Xbox 360.  Primarily so I can use my excellent PS2 Saturn style pads for fighting games.  Well I finally found something that seems to work pretty well for a decent price that is doesn't seem laggy: The Joytron Xconverter 360 Plus
http://www.joytron.co.kr/goods/view.asp?g_code=CD007-00377

They should work with the PS2 dance pads as well.  Though its kind of below my interest level and beyond my skills to actually test them to confirm that they don't have any sort of perceptible lag for that kind of play.

The link is for the original Korean manufacturer.  All kinds of folks are selling them on ebay though.

The only caveat for using them is that they require a wired Xbox 360 controller be plugged into the adapter.  Since they don't have the licensed proprietary technology required in Xbox 360 controllers, they need the official controller to connect.

I did testing with MVC2 and it seemed pretty responsive.  There are other folks who have done more thorough tests, you can find them if you look around.

If I hadn't sold my Cobalt Flux 2 years ago, I'd give this a shot so I could enjoy DDRU 1 & 3 without the aid of an ITG2 machine

I'm gonna bump this because I just played this the other week and had some thoughts on 3.
From what I've seen thus far this is far and away the best effort among modern DDR games, the DLC is really top notch and the charts are technically sound from what I saw of Universe 3. Charts lacked double stepping and avoided 3-3-7 autogen patterns that plagued classic DDR.  The another charts that I played carried relative challenge while still maintaining sane patterns that are devoid of gimmicks that I've seen in recent "difficult" arcade DDR songs. Only real complaint I have is about the framerate.... YUCK. Thanks to Schlagwerk for having me play this, I can highly recommend this game at full price point to anyone with a 360.
