Re: [Arcade] Pink Gorilla (Pink Godzilla) - University District, Seattle, Washington
Are there any more success measures that you can provide? I know you're not there anywhere near constantly and PG obviously has multiple employees, so it can be hard to gather some of the following, but:
- Does everybody play a few games then leave, or are there some people who stick around for a long time?
- Returning players (not from the forum)?
- Dead during the day and busy at night, or is it an all-day flow of players?
- Are most games getting good amounts of play, or is concentrated on two or three games?

Is this store game sales? If so, that's great!
Yup! And after they close each night there are usually groups of people hanging around outside wanting to come in, which is a pretty good sign too!
More updates:
STAR WARS and Robotron: 2084 are in, Asteroids and Ms Pac are out. Replacement versions of Asteroids and Ms Pac are both coming soon, so if you're into those games don't fret! We just had to make a clean break from the old op. All games in the store are mine now.
Pinball coming very soon (probably this weekend) -- just one game to start but it's a really, really good one.
I've heard one of the Pop'n buttons is sticking sometimes, so I'll be checking that out ASAP. It's a hard issue to combat permanently, but I'll give it my best.
We're staying open until at least 11 tonight, possibly midnight, as a trial run of new hours. If you're into later-night gaming, come out tonight and show the bosses that it's a worthwhile change for them to make!

The employees at the store seem genuinely blown away by the whole thing, and sales have seen a clear jump in the past 4-5 days that the new games have been running. This is all extremely good news!

anyone have a lead on these other than Channel Beat?
I know two other mainstream places which have DDR stuff, though neither specifically says they sell the clear bezel. You could ask them about their DDR Extreme overlays, perhaps they come with the clear plastic part of the marquee too? It's worth checking out.

Bucky O'hare wasn't pulling its weight, and the PCB was starting to really act up, so that's been swapped to Turtles in Time.

First off, thanks to everyone for coming in, sharing ideas and enthusiasm, and spreading the word about the PG Arcade. You have no idea how excited we're all getting about the outpouring of interest in the arcade. It all directly feeds our drive to keep making the place better! The employees at the store seem genuinely blown away by the whole thing, and sales have seen a clear jump in the past 4-5 days that the new games have been running. This is all extremely good news!
I think 4th+ will have to be what we go with in the other DDR cab, at least for a while. Since the place seems to be doing well so far, we're thinking of rushing in the second DDR sooner than planned -- maybe even this week/weekend. I'll tell you right now that it will look like crap at first, since my plastic marquee front is shattered (anyone have a lead on these other than Channel Beat?), but it should play fine!
Other updates: Dangun Feveron (Fever S.O.S.) and Joust are in, and Joust 2 is out. Marc's games have almost completely been purged -- only Asteroids and Ms Pac left. Bucky O'hare wasn't pulling its weight, and the PCB was starting to really act up, so that's been swapped to Turtles in Time.

My vote is for 4th +, too. There are enough places (albeit shitty ones) to play 5th that Extreme would be my second choice.

I only wish for Max1 for like, a week, haha
Of the mixes you like, I vote for 4th+, personally.

There's a Disney's Rave across from where I work. I've only played there a handful of times and I already feel like I've owned the game in every way. Unfortunately, unlike the PSX version, very few of the songs have charts that rate above a 5 on the 1-10 scale and one of the songs (I can't remember which) literally only had left and right arrows for the entire stepchart.
The mix is a lot of fun and a novelty, but like Max1, it quickly loses it's luster and would probably get ignored.
+1 Vote for 4th Mix+. I can't wait to play Operator, Dub-I-Dub, and Dancing All Alone.

Re: [Arcade] Pink Gorilla (Pink Godzilla) - University District, Seattle, Washington
I'll just be honest and say that there's probably not much chance that I'll make the second cab into a MAX 1 or 2, just for personal reasons -- I never liked those mixes at all and they remind me of what I consider the "rapid decline" era of Illusionz. Sorry to anyone who considered those years the glory days! If there's overwhelming demand I'll reconsider, of course!
My personal preference would be 4th+, then Extreme, then 5th. Seems like Extremes are around quite a bit though, so I'd probably be more likely to run 5th than Extreme. I only wish you all loved Disney's Rave like I do -- I have a legit PCB for that with side pops and everything and would love to put it in a cab. Somehow I'm guessing it's not on anyone's wish list.

About VOOT, I don't have one myself but I do know who got the one from Illusionz. I believe they have it running at a place in Olympia or somewhere
It's at Laser Fun Zone

You betcha for that week though I'd play the shit out of it least until I AAA everything max exclusive, and then I'd continue to play it anyway

Max would be awesome... for about a week. Then everyone would bitch about the relatively small size of the songlist and want something else.

YES to DDRMAX. The days when I first played that game at Illusionz were some of the best memories I have.

5th mix isn't actually good, haha
Maybe more like SNES and dreamcast. it has a couple of redeeming qualities ;P
I probably wouldn't pay $1 to play something older than max2 or so but I'd definitely go out of my way to play it. If you briefly stuck a max machine in there I'd love you forever

So I went and played SN2 at PG today. It was awesome. I didn't do nearly as well on SN2 as I thought I would, I think I was paying too much attention to the Mav timing and not enough attention to my stomps, but oh well.
The arrows are a bit loose, but I hardly even noticed it. This machine worked just fine for me and it's better than the majority of machines I've found outside of ACME.
Quote from: bobbyconover on February 13, 2010, 11:40:34 PM
I would really love to make it a 4th+, just because that was the last mix I played regularly and that I truly loved. I mentioned it to a couple of pretty serious players a while back, though, and they seemed to think the frame rate in that mix might be a problem for newer players. What do you guys think? We certainly never cared about frame rates back in the day, but maybe it's the kind of thing where once you're spoiled by the nicer new versions you can't adapt?
I think that 4th Mix & 5th mix are like the NES and SNES today. They're retro and old, but many people still like to play them because they were so damn good. The newer stuff definitely looks better, but looks aren't everything. I think that if newbies want to play, they'll probably gravitate towards SN2, but most of us veteran players are always looking for a good old-school mix to play on.
I don't think you could charge the same price for 4th Mix as you do for SN2, and I would bet it won't get as much consistent play as SN2, but if you have it there for .75 for 4 songs and perhaps with Double Premium, I'm likely to play that as much as SN2. Then again, I was the same dude who played Max 2 more than any of the other machines when I went down to ACME, so perhaps I'm just overly nostalgic.
Arcades may have gone away, but their culture is not gone.

Re: [Arcade] Pink Gorilla (Pink Godzilla) - University District, Seattle, Washington
We're going to set up a dedicated Facebook/Twitter for the arcade stuff. The only question, really, is whether it should be an account for just the Pink Gorilla Arcade or for myself as an "op," since technically I might eventually have games in other locations. Anyway, we'll figure out what we're doing and get something set up within the next couple of days.
Crazy Taxi is mine and I bought it specifically for PG, so it's not going anywhere. Ms Pac on the other hand belongs to the other op, so it's getting yanked, but it will be replaced by.. My even nicer Ms Pac! I'm not sure if the transition will be seamless -- it all depends on when the op comes to get his games -- but at any rate, there will definitely be a Ms Pac in the arcade.
And yeah Gosha, we've really been wanting to do the "UFO catcher full of plushies" thing, but we only want to do it if we can find an authentic Japanese style UFO catcher as opposed to the lame US crane games. It's definitely on the list of ideas we're pursuing, though.

The place in Olympia that has a lot of Illisionz stuff is Lazer Fun Zone.
http://laserfunzoneolympia.com/
They have ITG2 and DDR EXTREME from Illusions.
It seems like they could get a decent fighting game crowd going if they hooked up a 360/ps3 with SF4, Tekken, Blazblue etc... probably be better then getting actual arcade hardware as long as it were in a cabinet setup.
I also know they have a crap load of PG plushies, if anyone comes across a cheap claw machine/ufo catcher, it would be another cool thing to throw in there. Unless it takes up too much space.

When I was there with Kevin, James, and Laura on Saturday there were a bunch of non-community people there. It was cool too, as the machines just got there!
Bobby, is there a Facebook / Twitter for PG Seattle or the arcade?
PS: Please don't get rid of Crazy Taxi and Ms. Pac Man

Re: [Arcade] Pink Gorilla (Pink Godzilla) - University District, Seattle, Washington
A couple little updates: Mr Driller G and Armed Police Batrider have been added (in New Astro City candy cabinets, all new sticks/buttons), as well as classics Marble Madness and Donkey Kong 3. Baby Pac-Man and Gorf are out. We're rapidly transitioning things from the old op's games to mine, so expect the classics lineup to get a shakeup (if anyone cares
.
Last night it was pretty lively in there, which was really exciting to me. Best of all the people didn't even seem to be "scene" types so much as random UW students, so word must be spreading. More to come soon! I need to get as many cabs up and running as possible in the next couple of days so we can shuffle the old op's games out, but I'll be tackling the DDR arrow sliding issue ASAP.

Holy hell man. If they have one for sale and you opt to not buy it, please let me know about it, because I just might be interested in it.

I'll certainly buy a IIDX if I ever find a deal on one, but that's a pretty big "if"! Stranger things have happened, though. You never know.
