Wow, I may have to burn through some quarters for that game...  Hopefully they fixed that USB problem on the P2 side of the ITG2 machine.

i haven't been to Narrows since the end of about Dec. 2006 (banned in Dec. 2005 over a panhandling accusation). i'm wondering if the management has remained the same since then or if there's been any changes. i'd hate to walk in there to play some ITG and get arrested because they recognized me or something...

Go for it!  Nobody should notice you, too much time has passed.  Tell them you have my blessings to be there should any crap arise.

Yeah people probably get shot at narrows from time to time since it's in ghetto Tacoma. I doubt anyone would recognize you, let alone care that you supposedly were panhandling 6 years ago... Or you could come up to Acme bowl; most of us play up here nowadays Smiley

went to narrows today before going to BeFit tacoma to train. Had a good session getting to know lots of itg1 and 2 charts, the pads are quite fun, its an interesting contrast to the machine at acme, but it builds the fundamentals.  Smiley i did not get the memo its 75 cents which is a smoking deal :]

Seems that the Narrows ITG2 cabinet lost it's memory, and it's R21 patch.  Any Narrows players that know how to install this patch, along with our cooperation and encouragement?
thanks

Bill,

Just get a USB drive and put the r21 patch on it (in the root of the drive, not a sub folder). Put the USB into the machine's USB ports. Go to the Operator/Service menu and choose Machine Update. The rest should be self-explanatory.

r21 Patch:

You may need to apply the r16 patch first, it goes on the same way and you can get it here:

Hey y'all,
finally back from Afghanistan.   It's nice to see little has changed with narrows...  DDR is too loud and air hockey is distracting.

For music games, DDR Supernova, and ITG 2, two players for the price of one.

wow... a couple years later and i've still not been back there yet... still edgy about that place, i guess... been meaning to make my way up to Acme at some point, but i've just been forgetting to...

also, i think i don't try going to Narrows because my voice and face are what are recognizable, and my personality even more so. if i say anything to anyone who works there, i'm sure that, even after all this time, they'd probably remember seeing me before and then remember "oh yeah, that guy was 86'd, right?"

sorry, i just can't seem to shake off my PARANOiA...

Come on back.  Whatever happened years ago should now be water under the bridge.  If you have any problems, tell them the arcade owner has let you back in, and they can call me if they have any questions.

APHR and I live in University Place which is really close by.  I used to go to Narrows when I was 16 to mess around on the DDR Extreme. The place seems to be hanging on by a thread. It is definitely not what it used to be.

So I visited Narrows on Saturday briefly, and got 2 sets in.

Are the sensors only on the inside of the arrows? My wife and I were missing all sorts of freezes and doubles was annoying because I would frequently miss teps on the inside two arrows.

Otherwise the screen is nice, if a little laggy and the song list is nice. Scrolling through them all takes a long time though. Tongue

Hi BlueSS,

Yes, the sensors are only on the inside of the arrows at the moment. Considering the condition that the machine was in when Chris and I started to work on it, it is a miracle that its even playable at the moment.

We had a very limited amount of working sensors to use and we also are working with extremely old, and extremely cheap sensors as well.

Here's to hoping you can get some outside sensors in the machine. Smiley

I forgot to post this awhile ago but for whoever cares I host an event play the first Friday of every month for the conversion cabinet. I put the cabinet in event mode and people pay for the songs they play before they play.

It costs either a token per song or for 6 dollars you can play as much as you want. I generally start it at 1 P.M. and end it at 1 A.M. Keep in mind we do have rotations and each person generally plays one or two songs before rotation.

I am going to be doing the event for this Friday as well, so if you were planning on coming I hope this makes things more interesting! The past several times I've done this with Chris I've gotten positive feedback and we've always had a chill night with lots of visitors so I'll continue to do the event for as long as I can and as long as Bill lets me. Smiley

I heard from someone today that the GrooveNights theme is on one of the machines, along with DDR songs. I assumed the ITG2 had some stuff hacked on, but I just read it's a StepMania converted cabinet. Since ITG is, at it's core, just StepMania with a specific theme and set of songs, it's good to know things have expanded beyond ITG, like what was done with the dedicab up at ACME, which I still need to go up and try out (so many years gone by, sheesh), but is it still possible to load custom songs from USB, and if so, do they still have to be in the .ogg/.sm standard custom song format, or can the machine load other formats as well, and lastly, what are the hours at Narrows? I didn't see them listed in the location info.

EDIT: nevermind about the hours, their website just told me what they are.

The Narrows ITG cab is a more upgraded ACME cab, I'll say. Also, I think the format for loading custom songs through USB drives is the same with any normal cabinet.

So they moved the ACME dedicab to Narrows then, or did they just update the ITG2 that was already at Narrows? In any case, I'll have to make my way up there and check it out just to see what it's like. I'm usually playing ITG2 at B&I since Masterman put their machines in over there, and I've been so far out of the loop regarding ACME and Narrows.

EDIT: Sorry, I need to read more threads before I ask questions. It looks like the machine at Narrows is an upgraded cabinet, not the dedicab, and it's running OpenITG, not the original software or one of the mainline StepManias. Also, it looks like the monitor's been replaced with a widescree flat-panel one. I'm intrigued.
