Most arcades rip you off in one way or another but 1.00$ for 3 songs is a dick move, especially when the machine is an upgrade with a purple screen.
think they give a Shit? Most places I've played here and overseas are 1.00.  Driving / traveling isn't an option for everyone, either. Dunno where all the cheap / functional arcades are. Washington? Guess I'll log in again in 3 months to see what's up.

Re: Kumoricon

I know, I'm such an asshole :S

Honestly, I'll probably end up going to Kcon unless a few people feel like going up with me to PAX. It's just my experience thus far with Kcon has been "play in DDR tournament on CFs with wooden bars while jerks I've never met insult my clever minimalist Ice Climbers costume."

But honestly, if Charlie, Julia, Bryant and Josh S. are all going to Kcon again that's reason enough! a tournament would be nice too though

I'm probably still going to kumoricon. If I knew more people I'd go to PAX too but I just moved here so I want to meet people in the portland area before meeting seattle area people. Not to mention it's probably kind of hard to meet locals at a 60k attendee convention.

Re: Kumoricon

Stop being mean dickhead :/
Considering it's the only ITG2 nearby and traveling to another one would cost you more than playing at Tilt, no... It's not a ripoff. And besides, dollar a game is standard. Anything better is a "good deal", which is rare in the arcade world and you can't ever EXPECT to get a good deal.

Is that a joke? Because I've been to a fair share of arcades in my 'time' and I've never had to pay a dollar, not for a machine that was worth it. Even when my regular location was at an indoor water park in the dells, and that's saying something, the cost was only 75c. Most arcades rip you off in one way or another but 1.00$ for 3 songs is a dick move, especially when the machine is an upgrade with a purple screen.

I really think it would be a better deal to dish out the gas money and go play on a sick dedicab somewhere for a whole day every now and again. Regional sports center is only .50c a play and as far as any other dedicab.

Obviously if I decided to go that route I would play less, but the quality of play would be better (I might even be able to beast dragonforce, which is the only thing I care about besides other stamina) and it wouldn't be the first time I've had to drive to play. When we had to drive that distance to play we didn't just opt for DDR just because it was closer, we chose to wait and drive to pay for what we actually wanted.

Re: Kumoricon

For all the money you'd pay to get into K-Con you could play so many more games at 2 different locations with fewer annoying people and at a cheaper cost. Don't think a con is conducive to good play either, so the choice is very obvious. Your time and money is better spent trying to plan a get together or just playing at Malibu / Tilt or at a friend's.

Tilt is such a rip.

I'm going to the one with more DDR and/or fighting games tournaments. And less furries.

Re: Kumoricon

Well, at PAX you mainly go to meet people, play demos, get swag, go to panels, and go to the concerts.  Unless you are in a tournement, or just playing in the freeplay rooms, you don't actually get to game very much.

Re: Kumoricon

Waiting in line to try RB2 at PAX 2008 is how I ran into an old friend from Delaware.. on the entire opposite side of the country.

My only problem with playing a dance game at PAX any convention is sweating it up and then having to be stuck in a crowd of people, or go out of my way to return to my hotel room and shower.  For the sake of those around me, I just opt to not play.

The thing that sucks the most is waiting in line and then paying a shitload of money to play and not being able to play very long D:

Yeah I'm one of those people, the kind who like challenge and stuff. <3

PAX seems way cooler that kumoricon, I dunno if I'd be able to make that though. If I did and there was a place for arcade/music games I'd be down to meet up. I just moved over here and havent met anyone into the community yet =/

That vid was tempting as fuck though btw.

If you are into Harmonix or Guitar Hero games, they have a lot of set ups for that.  Same with other music games.  If Konami shows up, they might have something, but other than that... no ITG or BEMANI.

If they do have any kind of dancing game setup at PAX 2010, I think we should all schedule a time to meet there and own it up for a good hour or so.

Re: Kumoricon

I'm sure if you posted about an arcade in the forums, you could get some interest going.  Pink Gorilla has some of its arcade cabs at Sakuracon, so they might bring some stuff for PAX at their expo hall booth.

I believe the Pump Pro 2 team is looking into getting some space for a machine, but dont quote me on that.

Re: Kumoricon

PAX 2007 had two DDR SN1 machines but none in 2008 & 2009
Meanwhile PAX East got a classic arcade room ;A;

Re: Kumoricon

If he or I said it, I don't think we were being too serious. In all honesty, if they had an arcade room and a staff (like Sakuracon), I'd love to let them use it, assuming they'd compensate us for moving costs, etc.

I remember at PAX 2004 in the Bellevue Convention Center, they had two DDR cabinets in the main foyer. But from what I saw last year, they didn't have an arcade room.

Scott I remember Dan mentioning that you guys might try to get your Machine there this year? I don't know it was an idea he had, I don't think anything formed from it.

Or at least any other pleasing rhythm games? I'm not talking about DDR, by the way.
Oh. So you're one of those people.
Yeah didn't it have like 66k attendees ? That's sick huge.

Do they usually have an arcade set up or ?
I didn't see one last year, but IIRC they do have the nation's largest LAN party. An arcade would be a great idea @ PAX though.

Not sure about the dedicabs, but there's a PAX hosted on the East and West coast. Apparently the one in Seattle is way bigger :]
