{Tournament} DDR National Tournament - Gameworks, Seattle - Konami Sponsored

I'm not saying it's legit, but according to EvilDave and Bemanistyle:

Quote
An unofficial announcement of an official Konami lead tournament has been posted. Reasons for this unofficial announcement is due to the first regional tournaments starting very soon.

The Community Manager of Konami, Ryan Iyengar aka DukAmok is the main person behind this and has been in contact with EvilDave over some of the details of this upcoming event.

Here are some of the details:

    * The main event and regional's are to be held on SuperNOVA 1 for its availablity. SN2 will be used at locations when no SN1 is available.
    * "Satellite" regional tournaments will take place throughout the US at Gameworks locations.
    * The 1st place winners from each regional will be awarded with an all expenses paid trip to the finals.
    * Finals are to be held at the Gameworks Las Vegas, NV on the 5th of December.
    * The main event will only be open for the 1st place regional winners.

Competitors must register to compete on an upcoming Konami website. Entrance is free of charge.

I remember last year following posts on ddronlinecommunity.com on this subject. So I this just might actually be serious.

Should be fun if it turns out to be real.

So yeah, I didn't mean to not reply to anyone here. I've been dealing with family stuff and I haven't even been on ZIV much either but I have already registered, I did in september. So I'm actually already in Seattle right now so I might run over to gameworks later today. I haven't been there in many year so I just wanna run over the layout. I'll let you know what i'm up to if anyone is able to/wants to meet up tomorrow. Send me a PM for my cell if you want or email me.

Never mind, I won't be fucking attending because of this ridiculous registration process. Apparently you have to fucking FAX in or MAIL the parental consent form more than FIVE DAYS before the tournament. Well, have fun with your even easier victory, Amber! Tongue

Fax in? Wtf? I just signed up online.

I suggest you show up anywho, I wouldn't be surprised if they'd let you participate.

Suko: Well, originally I had a dress rehearsal from 9am until 2pm. It then turned out that because of the order of the pieces, I only had to be there until 12. I then found out that registration check in was moved to 12:30, so I can make it.

Sad to say, whoever picks 1P will win the match no doubt. Maybe we can convince them to let us look at 2P side before the tourny.

seems to be a running theme throughout this whole tournament process...

Re: {Tournament} DDR National Tournament - Gameworks, Seattle - Konami Sponsored

Update!

They have moved DDR X, USA, and Supernova over more towards the bar, and fighting games. So it's in a more open spot so we don't crowd the front of gameworks. Also, the volume on supernova is louder than it was (hooray for that)
When I walked in, I saw a technician finishing up what looked like......wait for it.......ACTUALLY FIXING THE PADS :O

Well here is your report for now.

1P: Better than it was last night. AAA Silent Hill (3rd Christmas Mix) lol except for a dropped freeze on the last arrow, and lots of SDG's on songs. So these are in the best condition there going to be in for the tournament probably.

2P: WAY better than last night, but sadly still not in the ideal condition we would want. Lots of dropped freezes, but way fewer pad misses and greats. I say it was an improvement to get over a 100 combo on tsugaru compared to last night were my max combo ended up being 49 on tsugaru haha

Sad to say, whoever picks 1P will win the match no doubt. Maybe we can convince them to let us look at 2P side before the tourny.

I'm happy I saw them doing something though. It was nice to see that they were actually trying, and I appreciate that.

Well guys, lets make the best of this as much as we can! LET'S KICK SOME ASS

Our best hope is that Laura or one of the "hired help" for Konami actually listens to the players.

Doubtful.  We obviously have no idea who the hired help will be, but right when DMN and Laura were scheduled to have phone interviews, they sent out a message saying all positions were filled already and canceled the rest of the interviews.  The application did have you fill out relevant public event experience, and Laura did point out she's run arcade tournaments before (DMN probably listed the roughly one dozen tournaments he's run as well, plus he's spent a few years as Sakuracon gaming/event management... haven't talked to him, so unknown what exactly he wrote), so it's not like they didn't have some idea what doors were being closed.

Did you guys not say anything about the pad condition to them today?

I've been telling them to get their asses into gear for the past two weeks (but not exactly word for word, I was nice about it)

oh yeah for sure, it just sucks to know that the pads are that bad. Friday night i should be there to check them myself, i'm hoping that since i'm a heavy guy i'll be able to get some life out of these pads. were you playing bar or no bar? i've often noticed that if your having up arrow(down sensor problems) using the bar takes to much weight off that arrow, causing more misses
I'm not skinny (but not heavy either), and when I was there during PAX I was still getting a lot of misses/pad greats on the 2P side, even stomping around.

Suko: Don't count on it. Reading the AIJ thread they were threatening to DQ people who tried to repair the pads.

Our best hope is that Laura or one of the "hired help" for Konami actually listens to the players. If you read the summaries from the last few events, the players are telling Gameworks exactly what arrow and even what sensors to fix, but they don't do anything.

I will be bringing my "emergency DDR repair kit" (i.e. my motorized screwdriver, WD40, and business cards) just in case they give me the opportunity to do something about the pads. I'm doubting it, but here's hoping for a miracle.

I was switching between both bar and no bar. The 1P pad is in good enough condition to maybe AAA a song. Honestly I'm probably at fault for going to gameworks often this past week to practice so much, but even still....gameworks should fix their pads. I feel if there were like 5 or more of us that approached them on friday, they'd do something about it.

honestly, I was more concerned with the fact that I was getting so many misses.
Trust me, the 2P side is basically unplayable for a tournament.
If I had to guess, I'd say probably about 15 or 16 of those were pad greats.
Trust me though, the misses were not me at all.

I see the 2P side hasn't improved since I was there during PAX...

It's gameworks, they won't do shit.

so my buddy kellen (took 4th place at the last regional) said he just picked one of the first round songs for his seed song, and that they didn't used the wheel until the second round.

hey keby on tsugaru how many of those were pad greats? it's one thing to to have failing sensors where you can clearly see a miss, but it's kinda hard to prove to people that the pad is giving you greats.

Re: {Tournament} DDR National Tournament - Gameworks, Seattle - Konami Sponsored

I was at gameworks tonight. Saw Amber there and we played SuperNova. Well.....here is the condition thus far.

1P side:

Umm....not bad still, but getting worse, like Amber had a hard time full combo-ing songs, I told her she was just short lawl. No but really, even I was having a hard time with the pads. the down sensor on the up arrow is almost gone, so you can't really small step. The other three are doing well, but won't last through the tourny probably.

2P Side:

This should give a good idea......
I played Tsugaru on it

greats = 26
goods =  5
Misses = 38!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so yeah, it was pretty good night. SDG'd some stuff on 1P side. Yeah.......

Re: {Tournament} DDR National Tournament - Gameworks, Seattle - Konami Sponsored

That would be a good idea, because I'm not sure what to do either.

I'm assuming when we arrive we tell them what qualifier we want to play. Everyone plays their qualifier song and the top 5 or 10 (I can't remember) players with the highest scores move on. I don't think it matters if one player had 98% on Brazilian Anthem and another got 98.5% on Insertion, the players with the highest score moves on, regardless of song. Assuming that this is the method they're using, I would stick with the song you have the highest % on for the qualifier.

By all means though, if you talk with your buddy who participated in a previous event, please inform us all. This US Championship has gotten very little clarity or attention, even from the players in our community.

They made you pick a seeding song when you sign up.
I'm not even sure if they're doing that anymore though.....

yeah I got this a long time ago

Dear Andrew Burns, This is to update you regarding the song selections for the DanceDanceRevolution US Qualifier as of September 30, 2009.  During your initial registration, you selected a song for Round One during registration. Please note, this song selection is no longer valid. The song selections have changed.  Song selections for each DanceDanceRevolution US Qualifier will change for each event. Songs will be posted the Monday before the event is to take place.  To review the song selections for this week's event go to: http://www.konami.com/uschamps And click on the Songs link.  Tournament Administration

so i figured the new seed would be from the new round one songs?

i'll ask one of my friends that competed at the last regional and see what he did.
