I just started to use a usb drive while I go play itg and was wondering if I could use my psp. I just lost one of my last usb drives, and the one Ive been using has started to not work.  With my psp, I can move folders around within the psp so if I bring more then 50 songs, and just move the folder so I can play which ever set of customs songs I want. Just wondering if anyone else has tried this. I was going to test this last weekend, but the usb at narrows was acting up saying it couldnt find addresses on my flash drive, after I had played like 4 sets.

The PSP might be recognized as a high powered usb, which ITG cannot read. I tried using my ipod as a joke one time, and it didn't work.......though it did charge it all the way to full power haha.

Honestly I can't really tell if it'll work or not, because I've never tried it, but I'm just letting you know, that you probably shouldn't get your hopes up. If it works though, that would be the coolest thing ever. haha

I was afraid of that. I tried using a micro sd card and adapter and it didnt want to recognize it. Ill still have to give it a try just in case. If not, Ill just have to go pick up a cheap usb drive and pray is doesnt fry like my last one.

I've had 4 USB thumbdrives in my life and not a single one ever died on me. Also, all 4 have been attached to my keychain and go everywhere with me. What the heck do you people do to your USB drives that kills them so frequently?

I've had a couple where the lanyard is attached to the cap (loose due to poor design) and repeated droppings ensue.  Doesn't kill them, since flash memory is resistant to shock, but I'm sure it doesn't help, plus there's a risk of damage to the contacts due to dirt on the ground.  Laura is not the only person I know who has sent one through a wash/dry cycle (still won't kill it normally, but not good for the contacts, I'm sure).  I think the the sliding, jiggling, and constant torque that comes with using a keychain drive for your r21 files may have done my last drive in.  I had another die, most likely due to normal lifespan; it was one of the ITG beta test drives (Danford traded me for the drive I had been using until an ITG patch blacklisted it, simply because he couldn't get his hands on that particular chipset, and he needed to test with it for some single glitch), so I'm sure it had been used quite a bit during all the driver tests.

On top of all that kind of stuff, flash memory, in exchange for the many advantages over hard drives (small, shock resistant, low power) and RAM (persists without power), it does have, as the major disadvantage, self-damaging write operations.  It takes quite a bit of writing to do a flash drive in, but they actually build more than the advertised capacity in with a regulatory system which detects upcoming failure of each section of the drive and then starts migrating that data to a backup section and closes off the old one.  A flash drive doesn't die until there are no backups left and one section goes down for real, so it takes a while (a particular byte needs a couple thousand or so write operations, but I've seen ITG profiles listing about 3000 songs played, which would be 1000 sets, plus however much time spend loading files to it on a home computer, plus non-ITG usage, etc., and one bad byte forces a backup migration), but you can definitely make it happen depending on how many backups are built into your drive (it's variable by company, but generally not zero).

Psp failed, wouldn't recognize it at all. Was worth a try. Figured out that somehow the other flash drive had become corrupt, which was weird since it happened while playing. Reformatted it and its back to normal.

My 2GB SD Cruzer has been giving me issues (it's worked for exactly one set since the new ports went in).  Anyone else having issues with theirs?  I know they're pretty common drives and I've seen some people using them with no issues in the last couple weeks (and I bought this one to replace an identical unit with the same capacity when it died, which was after the old ports died), so I want to make sure it's just my particular unit.  Or something like that.  I'm just baffled, since Cruzers are basically the recommended ITG drive (they're one of five or so drives whitelisted for ITG1).

I've reformatted this thing about half a dozen times, FAT and FAT32, tried it completely blank, with blank folders, with just editable.ini, with a full profile, and with r21 files loaded.  I just get card mount errors every time.  I guess I'll have to see if I have anything else handy that might work in the meantime.

I've just been keeping my eye out for packs of, like, four 1GB flash drives for $20 or something.  That would be perfect for ITG2. Cheesy

Not sure if it helps, since I haven't tested it myself, but I just picked up 2 micro cruzer usb drives and they wouldn't work. Checked around and there seems to be an issue with the U3 utility that comes preloaded on the drive. You can remove that, and a few people said that it seemed to fix the mounting errors. Im going to most likely test this out in the next 3 or 4 days, so Ill post the results.

I don't like U3 and run the removal utility first thing when I buy a U3 drive anyway, so it's not that.  I actually got it to run for a single game (with nothing on the drive at all to start), and then it stopped working right after, so now I'm more confused.  I need to look at what was loaded and see if something seems corrupted or something.  Someone want to send me the data files from their drive (the ITG folder minus songs and edits) so that I have something to compare against?  Anyone know what sort of hash is run to make the profile verification file?  I doubt that's the problem, but who knows.
