January 31, 2007, 01:48:19 PM - ORIGINAL POST -

This thread had to start some time.  Although I've seen exactly zero people post that didn't already talk to eachother already, the aim is to have more people show up, right?  Yes.

About me.

name: James
age: too old
how to find me: I'm 5'9 and half asian.  Like everybody else at ACME, but whatever Smiley
I show up at ACME bowl every now and then.
I like DDR more than ITG for the most part but give both equal playtime, and also I play a lot of IIDX at home, it's a great game.
I am what can be generalized as a "scorer." That is, I play to get the highest score possible on everything.
My tag is "5DAI" on ITG/IIDX or "GODAI" on DDR usually.  Sometimes other names if I feel like it.
I am a pretty darn good simfile maker (as judged by me) but don't make a whole lot due to time constraints.  I take requests but they don't get fulfilled a lot for the same reason.

Nice to meet you.

Guys, I said I was willing to come to a compromise...
Dude, don't sweat it; after your first overdramatic argument with zeppy, you learn to love 'im. =)

Seriously, the first 50 (actually, 5-50) posts I made on didderfrick were a huge flamewar with him.
Now I consider him a good friend (as far as people I've only really talked to via internet go).

I have to admit, I personally find you a little uptight at times, but that's just you and I respect that.
Obviously, I don't know you all that much, so I'm trying to keep my judgments vague.  You could be a wild man who runs around the streets naked at 4am for all I know, but from what I've seen, you're not, and my suspicions that you are aren't very strong. Wink

I'm from minnesota. I'm in the navy so i've been living in new york/south carolina for the last 2 years. This is my first time going west anywhere and i'm pretty satisfied. I'm on the u.s.s. maine. I work like 80 hours a week right now and then we go on patrol in like 2 month so i'll be gone for a while. So i don't have a lot of time to go to the arcade but i go at least once a week. So i don't get fat ha. I think seattle is my favorite big city so far except maybe chicago.

Hi, my name is Kris.  I'm a pieces.  I enjoy Blazer games and playing pool.  I'm probably the oldest one in here and that makes me sad.  But in a way it's the whole circle of life thing.  I remember hanging out playing Magic:TG (which I don't do anymore) at the card shop I worked at when I was 14 and playing with adults so it's all good I suppose.   I started playing DDR about 8-9 months ago.  Since then I've evolved from TX1000 pads, soft pads and hard pads to the Blueshark Metal pads (1 with bar and 1 without) I have now.  I started playing at home on Stepmania and that really spoiled me because I'm a picky bastard when it comes to songs.  I've got 30 gigs of ddr media on my comp so of the 20,000ish songs I have I can always find what I'm in the mood for.  I like playing in the arcade once in a while but the song selection is limited even for an Extreme machine.  I can pass anything up to a 10 footer,  I've found a few keyboard files I can do by foot but I mostly like doing 4-8 footers for fun.  I mainly play DDR but I'm not apposed to playing ITG or Pump.  It's all jumping around and flailing the arms widely.  When I'm not playing music games I'm playing Frets on Fire (freeware version of GH2 for the PC), I just ordered a flying V double range, or I'm playing pool at Hot Shots in Beavertown, watching movies, taking classes at pcc etc.

Hello...I'm Solomon, but everyone I know just shorten it to Sol or come up with some silly nickname. I'm 18 years old, Korean, residing in Washington.  Starting next Fall, I will (99% likely) be attending the University of Washington as a freshman.  Um...let's see...

Just a bit of facts about me:

-I enjoy playing Go, an ancient Chinese board game. Yes, it's the same game from Hikaru no Go for the anime people who were curious. I have traveled to Sweden, UK, China, Korea, Canada, and various states to attend tournaments, meet other people who play Go (some of whom I are my very good friends), and just play this wonderful game.

-Violin, golf, and piano were three things I put a great deal of time and effort into, but for some reason lack of interest eventually got to me, so I quit all three after years of commitment and hard work. However, I hope to resume these great hobbies in the near future (since the biggest reason I gave up was school...).

-I also enjoy playing Touhou, a curtain fire shooting game. Unfortunately, I'm not so good at this game, and can't get through Imperishable Night on Normal mode. Pathetic results, but still loving the game and hopefully will get better.

-I also enjoy (wasting my time) playing poker online and watching pro poker. The psychology of the game astounds me, and I hope to someday rack up the money to at least attend the WSOP just once.

-Bemani games are pretty fun, and I enjoy SM the most at the moment.  I have played Stepmania for about two years, though recently I have come out of a 9-month break (stopped on 04/10/06, resumed on 01/25/07). It is a fun game to play. I am also a semi-frequent O2Jam player, level 21, and an DDR/ITG player (groovestats.com, !GO).  I'll be playing more ITG2 in the future.

-I love watching Asian movies. I think they have an element that Western movies lack, maybe it is just my cultural perspective. My favorite movies are The Host (괴물), Huo Yuan Jia, Memories of Murder, Silmido, Battle Royale, Tae Guk Gi, Vampire Cop Ricky, Curse of the Golden Flower, Samaria, and My Wife is a Gangster. I also have a fair share of Western movie favorites, including Rounders, Sin City, Donny Brasco, Scarface, American History X, Kill Bill Vol.1, and more that I can't seem to remember...I have it on a list somewhere though. A lot of the movies were recommended by friends, and am always open-minded to their suggestions.

-Reading and discussing christianity and creationism vs atheism and evolution with friends and religious locals is also something I enjoy. I think it is a very fascinating topic that a lot of people need more exposure to, especially Christians, whom I feel a lot of can't back up their faith. I love reading books by Richard Dawkins (great at backing up evolution/natural selection while adding a good dose of anti-God in general) and Lee Strobel (great at supporting Christianity and the existence of a God while adding a good dose of anti-evolution in general). Which side am I on? Who knows.

Hope you guys know me a bit better now.

Oh yeah, I haven't made a post here. lol

((Here's a pic))

Hey, everyone that hasn't met me. My name is Jerrad, and... I'm a Bemani-holic. (get it?!?!??1)

...sorry.

 I am currently a sophomore at the University of Washington and a prospective Computer Engineering major. Yes, you're safe to assume I spend pretty much most of my life in front of my computer: AMD x2 4400+, 2GB DDR RAM, GeForce 6800 Ultra (soon to be replaced), 1.1TB HDD space...

 Anyways, I'm really into music. Some of my favorite artists/groups include: the pillows, Ellegarden, Prefuse 73, Flogging Molly, The Flashbulb, Hideki Naganuma, Yuzo Koshiro, Sparta, TaQ, The Mars Volta, Gnarls Barkley, Nujabes... the list could go on for a while, and as you can probably see, it's a pretty wide range of genres. I really only can't stand rap/country/gospel. Tongue

 I frequent Acme and Gameworks, I've been playing DDR pretty regularly for almost 7 years now, and I play almost every other music game I can get my hands on. I'm pretty decent at IIDX, drummania, guitar freaks, but not great. xD I also enjoy Unreal Tournament 2004, the Myst series, Worms Armegeddon, Project Gotham Racing 1, Maximum Tune 2... but haven't really been doing much gaming lately.

 As for my icon... you might know what's up. Wink I frequent FA, 4chan, lulz... I do a lot of lurking, haha. I'd like to think I'm pretty normal though. Tongue

Yo new people.

Pepsikat, you sound like a pretty decent guy from your description of you.  I don't generally try to get in flamewars with anyone I don't know, and I realise that I may have been somewhat aggressive/defensive with you since you've been here.  I'd like to apologise for my hostility, but I'd also like to to lighten up on the whole age bullshit.  Sure, I'm 11 years younger than you; name me one reason why that matters.

Cynic:
Damn 7 years?  I feel so cheated as someone introduced me to DDR about a year ago.  I have a lot of time to make up for. Our music tastes sound in line.  I enjoy or can stand anything but country, rap and christian (nothing against those silly christians I just don't dig their music).

Sol: Which country did you enjoy the most that you've visited so far? Even though you went for the Go Tournaments did you try and find any poker games?  That'd be some great experience, playing against people from other countries even if it was small cash.  I love watching poker on tv or sneaking a few dollars to play online.  I've daydreamed about going to the WSOP but $10,000.00 to get in the door for a field of 10,000.00 people doesn't seem realistic.  It's grown over the years and maybe when it was 1,000-3,000 people but 10,000 people is crazy.

Tofu:
Stop thread crapping and I won't have a problem with you.  PM me if you want to chat about it but lets leave this thread for intro's, like it should be.  Or just drop it and keep it light.  We're all here to chat and have fun OR have fun and chat, which ever you prefer.

Once you get away from the mainstream Christian music, there is a good variety in all types of genres that is actually really good; it just takes some time to find it.
(My experience is mainly in the alternative/pop-rock genre)
