January 31, 2007, 01:48:19 PM - ORIGINAL POST -

This thread had to start some time.  Although I've seen exactly zero people post that didn't already talk to eachother already, the aim is to have more people show up, right?  Yes.

About me.

name: James
age: too old
how to find me: I'm 5'9 and half asian.  Like everybody else at ACME, but whatever Smiley
I show up at ACME bowl every now and then.
I like DDR more than ITG for the most part but give both equal playtime, and also I play a lot of IIDX at home, it's a great game.
I am what can be generalized as a "scorer." That is, I play to get the highest score possible on everything.
My tag is "5DAI" on ITG/IIDX or "GODAI" on DDR usually.  Sometimes other names if I feel like it.
I am a pretty darn good simfile maker (as judged by me) but don't make a whole lot due to time constraints.  I take requests but they don't get fulfilled a lot for the same reason.

Nice to meet you.

I guess I never really introduced myself here either...

Hi, I'm Taylor. I have been playing rhythm games off and on for 4 years.

Untill recently I played mostly stepmania and FFR on my keyboard at home. That was untill a half a year ago or so when I decided to buy a foam dance mat and see how far I could take my skillz. After that broke, I decided to try out the arcade scene and found that this website existed. I was quite amazed that there was an actual community right where I was located that was into rhythm games. (What Luck :O)

So yeah, I tried a few of the DDR machines in my area and found them a lot less sensitive and clunkier than my soft pad at home. I looked to see if maybe there were any better machines in my area and lo and behold I tried ACME. On my first visit I saw Chris and Abbye playing a 15 and pretty much noped out of there. When I finally did decide to introduce myself I was embaressed, but they were friendly and allowed me to play lowly 9's and 10's. I was amazed at how responsive the pads were and that they allowed me to minimize my movement much more than other ones.

On my softpad I could only clear most 9's and a few 10's. Fast forward a month and I am now playing 11's and 12's at ACME and having a blast!

Oh and I love making music in my favorite software ever: FL Studio

Anyways, thats my story Tongue

omg so that's why you have the fruity loop as your picture

Well I'm new to the forum, really so figured why not do this. I am Vincent, and I'll usually (pretty much only) come with Nick (Bauregaurd).  ITG I've played on keyboard (using ASKL for those who wonder at all) for quite a while now. I go to acme and play pump usually but now am going to ITG on pad now (I have quite a ways to go at this point). I hope to get to know the people here better pretty soon.

Hey potential friends >_<
I'm Raoul and I'm an OSU/Stepmania player originally from the Great Lakes area (Yeah... The place where you die if you leave your window open at night bc it's too cold) who recently moved to Idaho! I have a really ghetto hard pad basically wires an panels on top of my basement floor on which I play ITG, and a pen setup for OSU. I'm looking to get into other BEMANI and meeting new friends online Smiley Maybe when I actually get a job etc I can come kick it at ACME... Not sure if I'm 31337 (there goes the MegaTokyo fan in me hehe) enough to hang at ACME but I'll kick it.

Hey where in Idaho are you at? I recently moved from Boise to Portland. I know of three people that still play DDR and Pump in that area. It's pretty dead when it comes to Bemani. Boise to Portland is about a 7.5 hour drive and Porland to Tacoma is about about 2.5 which is where Acme is. . .
Again where in Idaho are you lol I guess if you are up north you have a better chance.

Hello,
My name is James, and I am actively trying to get a job in Seattle. Currently, I work as an Epidemiologist in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. However, I made it to a few final round interviews for some epidemiology jobs in Washington, but nothing has panned out. I have a few more interviews lined up. So here is hoping I get a job there sooner, rather than later. I will be bringing an ITG dedicab, a pump GX, and a pop'n cab with me.

If everything goes well with my interview this Friday, I will be looking for a house near the university area. I really liked the modern townhouses in south Seattle. I think the max loan I can get is ~350,000. So I will wait and see, but I need the job first.

Hey, I'm Will.

I am currently 17 and a Georgia native, but I sure hope to visit the great Washington state more frequently, and I wouldn't mind living here at all.

Washington state is home to my favorite arcade location ever, ACME bowl, I visited it last year and it was an awesome experience. Smiley

Hey Will,

I'm gonna be moving to Atlanta not too long from now, if you live in that area we should meet up sometime. I wanna get to know the dance game community over there if there is one

Yeah, I live in Atlanta's suburbs. I have a private machine available to play (and ya, it's a dedicab)

Hi, I'm Elise. I live in Seattle.
I "main" Pop'n, but I also enjoy playing DJMax and DDR (very) casually, as well as other non-arcade based games like Osu, Project Diva, etc. I'm probably in the minority in the Bemani community in that I'm not into IIDX, but I'd like to change that now that I have access to a machine (Round One opening might be the highlight of my summer)

I am not that good at Pop'n at the moment despite it being my favorite but I'm trying to get as much practice in as I can.

Nice to meet you all!

Welcome, Elise!   I never got into IIDX or Pop'n, besides a few games every now and then, so don't feel as if you have to like it. Smiley

I wish we had a Jubeat machine because I really enjoy that.

Hi everyone,
My name's Josh. I'm 25.

I never really got into the community back when I actually played DDR. My tag is BFLY. I didn't really come across that many other players, and I didn't get a lot of records (because I wasn't insanely good at ITG, and the DDR Extreme machines I played on would often drop steps). I spent a lot of time at the Cedar Hills Wunderland and the NE Halsey Wunderland from 2006-2008. At 25 cents a play (after you paid the $2.50 to get in), they were way cheaper than the $1 at the Lloyd Center TILT arcade.

Anyway I haven't played in about 5 years. I spent that time trying out different things with my life. I've got everything mostly figured out, but I was thinking about getting back into DDR to an extent, and was interested in maybe just playing a few games to see if my knees will be able to handle it. I didn't really like the song selection on any of the DDR machines except Extreme (ITG1&2 were okay I guess), but the ITG at Lloyd center is not gone. I live in north Portland, so the closest DDR Extreme is Ground Kontrol, but it doesn't seem to be the best place for DDR.

I have a ps2 with a bunch of dance games and a cobalt flux (no bar) that I got back in 2007-2008 (I actually had two, but one was taken). My pad's not working right now (haven't really tried to troubleshoot it). Also, I like the experience you get with the DDR cabinet way more than just playing one a pad in front of a TV in the living room.

My dream setup would be to rent a house in a place where it won't bug the neighbors, get/build a machine in the garage (I think maybe I'd just put Stepmania on it), and invite any/all dancers to stop by and play whenever they want. I wouldn't personally play a whole lot since I'm pretty busy with other stuff, but usually I like to take small breaks ever hour or two of work (long enough time for a set of songs), and it would be an easy way for me to stay in shape. It would also be nice not to have to go to the arcade to just play a few songs, and at this point in my life, I don't really want to dump all my money into arcades. I think buying or building my own cabinet will be my end goal, but I'm not sure of any kind of time frame or even if I want to do this in Portland. Like I said before, I'm pretty busy with other stuff, so this isn't a priority. Also, I would like to find a new place to live before getting a cabinet.

One of my hobbies is creating music, and I've wanted to make some step charts for some of my own songs for a while now. I downloaded Stepmania a few days ago and got hooked playing Goin' Under (one of the three songs that comes with Stepmania 5). I also started working on some steps for one of my own songs. I have concluded that DDR is my crack kryptonite, and it is definitely going to affect my productivity. It seems to boost my energy and creativity (even just playing Stepmania), but it can also consume me.

I mostly just wanted to say hi with this post and see who's out there and what kind of community is left in Portland. I'm not really looking for solutions to my DDR problems right now (though I'm totally appreciative of any feedback).
