January 31, 2007, 01:48:19 PM - ORIGINAL POST -

This thread had to start some time.  Although I've seen exactly zero people post that didn't already talk to eachother already, the aim is to have more people show up, right?  Yes.

About me.

name: James
age: too old
how to find me: I'm 5'9 and half asian.  Like everybody else at ACME, but whatever Smiley
I show up at ACME bowl every now and then.
I like DDR more than ITG for the most part but give both equal playtime, and also I play a lot of IIDX at home, it's a great game.
I am what can be generalized as a "scorer." That is, I play to get the highest score possible on everything.
My tag is "5DAI" on ITG/IIDX or "GODAI" on DDR usually.  Sometimes other names if I feel like it.
I am a pretty darn good simfile maker (as judged by me) but don't make a whole lot due to time constraints.  I take requests but they don't get fulfilled a lot for the same reason.

Nice to meet you.

Hi everyone

Just moved to the area, looking to get my bemani fix.

I'm mostly a PIU player, though kind of retired - no time and energy to keep up the cardio.

If there's ever a gathering to play Pump, I'll definitely try to make it!

I don't think I ever posted here.

Hi! I'm Talia. I'm from Providence, RI, and I go to school in Maryland. I'll be interning at Amazon this summer, so I'll live in Seattle from May 29th until at least August 19th. I play a lot of Bemani, although for the last year I haven't been playing so much, so I'll probably suck when I get there  Grin. My favorite game is Dance Maniax (weird, I know). I also sort of play ITG, or at least I did when UMD had a dedicab, with sfxazure and NekoSempai and company.

I'm probably going to check out some arcades if they're open on Memorial Day. Hopefully I can meet people.

Gameworks. Seattle. 1st Mix. Cabinet is in alright condition last time I checked.
Omg finally. Another Dance Maniax player.

I think ACME is actually open for EXTRA hours on Memorial Day, so that might be a good place to check out.  I'll probably be there (along with ancsik, my husband.)

Edit: Confirmed, ACME opens early (1PM as opposed to 3PM) on Memorial Day. Cheesy

Awesome. I used to play at Tokyo Game Action when it existed. They had a Dance Maniax 2nd Mix Append J-Paradise. That game was seriously fantastic. Somehow it ended up back in New England recently, so I try to play it when I'm around. I also got to play it at Arcade Infinity about a week before they closed. Is Heaven is a '57 on 1st? 'Cause that chart is freaking fantastic.

I'll try to make it out to ACME on that day I guess. Although I might have to stop at both ACME and Gameworks if they're both open, just to scope out the scene as much as possible and to go crazy playing games before I start working :3.

The one thing you guys are missing is IIDX, sadly. I left my ASC, PS2, and games in Maryland. Does anyone out there play?

We actually used to have an 8th Style machine and a fairly active scene.  Most of us play IIDX casually (as in, someone will bring a Konami Original Controller and a couple of the games to a party and everyone will crowd around the TV and take turns) but only a few of us are really good (not me, last I checked I still can't do anything harder than a 6 on Light 7).

My husband used to be pretty good (and between us, we have all of the CS versions 3rd-Happy Sky) but now he has carpel tunnel and rarely plays anymore.  I don't know if James/Godai still plays, but he was pretty damn good there for awhile too.  Tada, also, I think?

Anyway, the 8th Style machine didn't get enough play because all of our players would rather just play CS versions, so it ended up getting sold.  Sad story. Sad

God I wish I could've brought the KASC, it's pretty nifty, but it belongs to a friend of mine and I'd feel like a total ass if it got damaged in flight or anything like that. Anyway, not a huge deal. I'll just play lotsa Pop'n. Usually I can switch between the two games and get mysteriously better at the one I haven't played just by playing the other.

Also a warning ahead of time, when I go this long without playing dancing games and start sucking again by my own standards sometimes I get really mad at myself. If this happens, please stop me <3

My ex had a Konami ASC.  That's honestly one of the only things I miss about that relationship.  Tongue

With regard to Pop'n: I have a busted Pop'n Fever in my apartment, and as soon as I get the guy who sold it to me over to look at it and get it up and running again, you're welcome to tag along sometime Ben comes over and play or something.  Smiley

And no worries with regard to sucking at dance games.  This summer marks my 10 year Bemaniversary, and I have only gotten worse since age 14 or so. There are so many of my old DDR scores that I can't even TOUCH now that it's not even funny. :3

Sweet, I love Fever. And I'm not too worried about sucking; I'm more worried that I'll get mad at myself for sucking. I don't want to come across like I'm too serious about this game hahaha

If only I could pull this off hahaha.....

I'll be at Acme on Memorial day early evening-ish; that and every day Smiley Hope to see you guys there!

And don't bother with Gameworks, at least not for arrow stomping anyway. They don't even remotely take care of their pads. Acme Bowl however is pristine. In any case welcome to the area!

Any idea how to make it out there? I'll probably talk to Ben about this, but it'd be nice to have a vague idea. I'm living in downtown Seattle, and won't have a car.

Also I'm interested in Gameworks mainly for their other Bemani games, although as a DDR player, I'd rather play on bad DDR bads than good ITG pads. In general. Not when I first get there, though, since my priority will be meeting people in the community.

There's a bus that goes from Downtown Seattle to about a block from ACME.  It's been awhile since I've ridden it, but I think it takes about half an hour.  Smiley

Gamework's machines condition is across the board. SN2 seems pretty good, IMO. DDR X2 is starting to wear down and Extreme is pretty terrible. If you feel like it, DDR USA is in great shape and last I checked SN1 was out of order.

Lucky for you Acme has perfect ITG pads and perfect SN2 pads too Wink If this wasn't made clear that Acme has both

Plus, ACME should be switching out the SN2 for some older-school Extreme soon, which is going to be awesome for us displaced DDR players who turned to ITG out of desperation during the gap in versions. Grin

I hope this happens this summer (sorry to anyone who prefers SN2). I really want to finish Extreme eventually, but school has gotten in the way.

Theoretically, it should be happening in the next couple of weeks.  End of May/early June was the timeframe that Bill gave.  Smiley

You can catch it in the tunnel; it comes every 15 min. during the day and every 30 in the late evening. Most of the time it's pretty crowded though...

@xenonscreams: Hello! Grin

Howdy Talia.

For someone not that serious about dancing games, you certainly have a nice AAA count Wink

Haha, I used to be pretty serious but then school happened. Getting back into the game when I take breaks is really tough because I expect myself to be as good as I used to be. I tried playing today, total disaster. But I'm at least glad I experienced that around people I already knew, so that my first impression wasn't self-hatred over a few greats on easy songs  Grin

Hi I'm Isra.  Just moved here from Illinois.  I'm easy to spot since I play no bar and in sandals.

I tend to play for passing songs, but I'm working on my FA.  My goal is to pass many 13's no bar.  You can find me on groovestats under wisra.  Feel free to friend me!
