I should be there...not that I've met anyone yet.  I'm so poor I can't afford to even play DDR right now. Sad

I really don't know if I'm going... For one, it seems to cater to more mainstream gamers, and two, that I-5 closure is going to be hell.

I don't know how you can say PAX just caters to the mainstream gamers.

Do you ever see tournaments for retro or import games?  I sure as hell haven't.

Plus, it seems all the ads and stuff are for MMORPGs or FPSes.

Woo, only like 3 more weeks.

I don't think they support the import game scene due to licensing reasons... maybe...

I also think they don't concentrate on retro too much due to classic gaming conventions.  They sometimes throw in classic games into the Omegathon thing.  The main reason they advertise all these MMORPGs and whatnot is because those are the companies sponsoring the tournaments.

See?  It doesn't really support niche gamers.  Either way, I don't think I'm going... I only went for one day last year and got pretty bored.

The only reason I can see for going is motivation.  Not being motivated by other people going, or being motivated to strive to become a better gamer.  Quite different.  At the beginning of the day, I'll think to myself, "THIS is your future as a gamer if you don't move to Japan!  Mwahahahaha!", and then have music from an FPS running through my head as the background...

But that's just paying $30 and waiting in (most likely) a total gridlock to learn something I know.

But thats the thing... most niche games are not that good, only a select few really breakout and make it... others kind of just don't amount to much.  I love niche games as much as many gamers, but I wouldn't count out American, or European made games like they are all bad, it just isn't your cup of tea.  I can understand installments of continuous games like Call of Duty, or Unreal Tournament, or the next Sims game... but stuff coming out like Bioshock, Mass Effect, Spore, heck... even Castle Crashers looks sweet.  Even stuff like the new Penny Arcade is shaping up to look pretty fun.

I think it would be sweet to see some Dōjin soft at PAX, but I don't think it would ever happen because if it were publicized and marketed comercially, then it wouldn't be niche anymore, not Dōjin.

Sweet, starts in a day!  I'll be heading up tomorrow and hopefully be there at around noon.  If anyone on here is going, we should hit up Gameworks sometime.

I'll probably be hanging out at GW at least one day this weekend.  I still doubt I'll go into the convention though.

Never mind... don't think I'll be making my way back to GW$ this weekend.  It's closed 4-9pm Saturday for a "private event" anyway.

...and eww.  I can't believe I forgot what failures as people that most PAX-goers are.

from what i observed today, about half of the pax attendees were of "normal life" status...i saw more of "failures at life" at sakuracon...

seeing single men try to interact with the psp-armed girls were funny though...

A really cute girl that I know from work went.  I wonder if single men were attempting interaction with her too.  I should make fun of her.

Yeah, decent people use the word "fag" or similar words every other sentence.

[/sarcasm]

I went to GW on Friday, and obviously there was some spillover from PAX there.  I almost wanted to throw up.  Not only due to the above, but dear god, they reek.

"That little kid who's bitching about his score is a fag, isn't he?" --some random PAX-goer

I've had a great time so far.  I"m sure the people you talked to were a little intoxicated or something.

As for the private event, it was open for con goers during that time.  It was a big party for the company that makes Guild Wars.  Free games and food for 5 hours!
