I think this is pretty cool.

In fact, I think this is very VERY cool. Cool enough that I might have to check it out.

Oh I know where that place is.  I will probably have to go sometime.

Actually I was thinking of incorporating 45 minutes of DDR into my daily schedule on MWF to supplement my GETTING RIPPED(TM) workout plan.  Maybe I can throw this in there or something

Still up there when I checked over the summer.

Pads aren't the best, but it's still free. It's up in the right hand corner. Volume isn't the loudest because it's in a store; but the store is quiet so you can clearly hear the music.

The used music store is closed, and the unit is for lease. Sad

The machine is still there, so I contacted the owner about purchasing it and said her price was "high," "several thousand dollars."

 Shocked
For a used 4th mix solo that's missing the back bar and not in great shape? Good luck selling that, lady! They're on ebay for under 1K.  Huh

I have been following many DDR arcade machine sales over the last few months and I've seen multiple individuals trying to sell their DDR machines in an odd way. They often stat things like "I paid $5,000 for this thing back in '03 and I'm only asking $4,000 for it". This logic baffles me. Aside from a house, or some other object with significantly increasing rarity, most things diminish significantly in value over time. If you tried to sell a car you had for 6+ years for 80% what ya paid for it, the potential buyer wouldn't even take you seriously. I realize arcade machines are different, but unless it's in mint condition I wouldn't pay that kind of scratch.

Yeah, this machine was FAR from mint. lol

I guess these people don't realize electronics (of any sort) decrease in value fairly quickly. New versions, updated equipment... oh well. I hope the place just re-opens under new owners/management and the machine stays. Tongue  That works better for me.

The arcade cabinet market is defined by people not knowing the value of their stuff.  Used machines that people still actually want to play very rarely change hands, so people just post whatever they feel like posting for a price when they list it on ebay, ignoring condition or anything like that.  I'll admit I don't track prices that often, but I see DDR Ex machines listed for 3k one month and 8k the next (different people posting, obviously), probably at least partly due to the fact that there's never a second machine listed simultaneously to let them know if their price makes sense.

Plus you get arguments about potential (an older version of an imported game - it'll be easier to fix this one up an upgrade it than to actually get your hands on a new cabinet), earning history (DDR used to bring in a lot more than it does now, but you'll only hear stories about when it was still guaranteed to pay itself off quickly), rarity (solo is a dead series, good luck finding one of these in this condition, let alone good condition), and any recent repairs done to it (channelbeat parts, konami parts... whatever, they're NEW parts, aren't they?  We think we even put them in correctly, too).

So yeah, they'll eventually realize they're asking too much, but not after that thing has sat unused for a few months.
