Let's Hang Out!

This thread is solely for those random impulses you get to go play DDR, but don't want to go alone. Post where you want to go and when here, and maybe someone will go with you!

To kick it off, I want to go to Tilt! tomorrow around three or four. Gonna play some sheat. Come one come all!

Re: Let's Hang Out!

so i've recently found quite a few machines that aren't listed on the oregon machines list, a supernova at the movie theater on 82nd on the east side, another one at the clackamas movie theater, and a supernova 2 at some arcade in gresham.  i really want to meet some other people that play ddr in portland (i know...there are like 5 people total) so we should try and get something together in the next couple of weeks, especially since people will be off for the holidays (except me.  Sad   Any takers? maybe this weekend or sometime in the evening next week??

But if anyone wants to, you know, hang out or something, like, just sit around and throw rocks at dogs or something, that's chill.

In rocks, Russia throw dog at you.

If I had any money at all, I'd say Friday at Tilt!.

But I'm totally broke, and I have a flat tire on my bike and no way to fix/replace it, and I lost my flash drive.

So I guess I won't.

But if anyone wants to, you know, hang out or something, like, just sit around and throw rocks at dogs or something, that's chill.

Fuck, you AAA'd Xenon already?

I seriously need to start practicing.  I'm never going to catch up at the rate you're going.

Just a heads up, I was doing REALLY bad at first when I hopped on the machine.  Like, 45-60 greats per song.  Got re-synced after a while and I was doing okay, but don't be surprised if K-Con fucked your video syncing.

Probably going to GK today around 1. Been a week and a half or so, hoping that the "take a break" method will give me a little boost in skill. Tongue

Couldn't get any of them.  The pads aren't good enough for me to be consistent. :[

Almost FC'd Be Lovin' on one of the courses I've had trouble with, but a pad-miss on Air made that moot anyway.  Got 3 greats on 321stars immediately afterward just to say "fuck you".  I can consistently get 3 or 4 greats on that song now, although re-AAA'ing it has been problematic.  The attendant at Tilt! gave me a refund (in tokens) and told me they would be fixing the pads tomorrow - they definitely need fixing.  I'll probably check it out Thursday if I don't have plans.

Going to Ground Kontrol tomorrow.  I have a bunch of money and my leg's feeling better, so I'll probably be trying to finish FC'ing all the Nonstop courses.

Re: Let's Hang Out!

but if they charged ridiculous amounts....then I could charge ridiculous amounts to rent it out to them.  plus i could always play for free cause I have the keys.  Smiley

hmmm, i'll think about it.  i still want to get more settled in, plus i would like to have it a little closer to where I am at, although I am pretty far out on the east side.

probably going to check out ground kontrol this afternoon for a bit.  should hopefully be fun...

Man after playing on a dedicab yesterday I really wish we could have one up and working here. Would you be willing to rent it out to say, PSU? They keep super good care of what machines they have right now and have more than enough space... plus it would fit the mood there quite well.

Darn, I was hoping I'd only have to make one cab for Kumoricon. Tongue

Completely understandable though; I honestly wouldn't loan something like that out either; maybe an upgrade, but not a dedicab. (certainly a StepMania cab made by me though; I always feel a lot more comfortable letting stuff get beat up when I make it; doesn't bode well if I ever have kids.)

I guess once you get your house set up you can just make that a location. Like Blake did in California.

Re: Let's Hang Out!

I love Oregon. Some guy owns an ITG2 machine going unplayed and we just find out about it now.

Personally, I think you should talk to some arcades about hosting the machine for a while until you want it back or can use it. GK probably isn't your best bet because ITG2 would be too new, though you could give it a shot as it's easily the best arcade in Portland. Other than that, movie theaters around town could totally benefit from the machine.

Also Charlie, getting this machine set up for Kumoricon sounds like a fabulous idea to me.

well, I did only just move here 3 weeks ago, so it's not like it has been here very long.  couple that with getting settled into a new job, a new apartment and a completely new life, and that's why you only just found out about it.

I have waffled back and forth on whether to lease my machine out to an arcade or theater, but I actually had problems getting insurance, unless the place it is at wants to cover insurance.  If they don't, I can just imagine some kid breaking a leg or arm on the machine and the parents suing me cause I am the owner and am taking the profits (stupid american who love to sue)...I guess if you wrote up the lease agreement good enough you could get out of it, but then I would need to get a lawyer or something...

Personal insurance wouldn't cover it, and my state farm agent had no idea how to write up a policy to protect someone like that.  Plus there is the wear and tear, which I am VERY scared about.  The biggest nightmare for this move was actually me dreaming that i got the machine here but as we unloaded it from the truck, people dropped it and it smashed into a thousand pieces.  Luckily that didn't happen, but I'm still paranoid about damage to it, so that I don't think I could take it to a con or even put it out in a public place.

And in the case of re-sale (which I am not planning on doing, but you never know) I want it to be in the best condition possible.  It is not like you can get another one of these...and I pretty much got the last one.  I was in conversations with Roxor right before the lawsuit and pretty got the news that they were going to get bought out before it happened. I posted it on DDR freak and then a few weeks later it was official.  So, my machine probably is one of the last ITG dedicabs that was ever sold.  I've had some offers in the past couple of years for more than what i paid for it, and I am hoping those stay since they are no longer being produced.

But I agree with you guys...its a big shame and waste that possibly the best machine in the area is currently unused in my living room.  Definitely ironic.  Hopefully I can get a house in the next six months and move it in there.  But, I don't think I can lend it out to the CON or even put it in an arcade quite yet.  It is still too much of "my baby"

So yea, that's the scoop.  The Lloyd center ITG2 machine was crap and made me just want to play mine.  Haven't been to GK but I guess I should check that out.  Otherwise, doesn't sound like much DDR or ITG in portland. Sad

Talk to you guys later.  Gotta get back to work.

Re: Let's Hang Out!

Man, I'd be afraid to take a personal machine and set it up anywhere public.  It would pick up so much wear and abuse.  I have plenty of room in the garage of my current apartment for arcade cabs, but my roommate doesn't want to stay another year, and I don't really know anyone else (that I trust) who could room with me..  I'm gonna have to relocate in late Sept or Oct and who knows if I'll even be able to set up my Yamaha DTXpress in a new apartment let alone a whole ITG cab

Anyhow, I've got msn (for an entire single person I talk to over it) so I'll find you on there and we can catch up

I would be great, but I was trying to figure out details before I proposed that.  Zeppy recommended that I just run ITG2 off a couple computers in cabinets for the con rather than using StepMania, so if I can do that, this would be absolutely fine and dandy, as long as Derek would feel comfortable lending his machine out like that.  My other concern would be the pads.

First, I don't want Derek feeding his pads to Kumoricon; people there are scary.  My pads can handle it, but it would be too easy for some 300lb Naruto to come up and stomp too hard and dent a panel or break a tapeswitch.  Second, It's not as easy nor destructive if they're dancing on one of my pads because the panels cost less than a dollar each and the sensors are virtually impossible to break just by stomping on them.

Also, I want to be able to repair any problem with any pad in under 2 minutes in case something comes up during the tournament, because I wound up spending most of the tournament at Sakuracon figuring out all the quirks of the Afterburners so I could fix them. (I kept fixing one right as another would break and we wound up switching pads around every 3 or 4 matches.)

So, Derek, if you have some primal desire to bring your machine in, you're quite welcome to do so, and I can probably work something out so you could get in free and stuff, but just let me know, preferably before I crank out the money to build two StepMania cabinets.

Practice makes perfect.  But I'd rather be great. ;]

Re: Let's Hang Out!

NICE.  We should collaborate and run tournaments with that.

There aren't really any public spaces that would be safe for an ITG2 machine; Ground Kontrol's the only place I'd trust a machine if I had one (hopefully soon), but they don't really bring in enough to maintain the pads if you're running tapeswitches.

There's a little joint on 26th and Powell called Chaos (it's a Cafe) you might want to check out; it would be near you and they're pretty chill.  I was going to have a release party there for my DT600's but wound up canceling due to a blackout.  Even then, they were chill with it when I called in to cancel short-notice and their food is FANTASTIC.  Anyway, you could talk to them about the possibility of setting up your machine in the back room or something.

Re: Let's Hang Out!

well...you haven't gone through everything.... I actually own my own ITG2 dedicab...unfortunately I live in a one bedroom apartment and so i can't play it or even set it up.  So the machine is in my living room, the top is in the closet, the bars are in the coat closet, and the pads are under my bed.  I know, its a shame that it can't be played, but I am hopefully purchasing a home soon and then I will have room to set it up and play it.  It even has r21 on it...

schlag, yes I still play pop'n and IIDX.  I have my japanese ps2 with all the pop'n games and styles 7, 9, and 11 for IIDX.  I actually have 2 IIDX controllers too, so we could definitely play.  I'm not super good, as it isn't my favorite bemani, but its still fun.

that is sad about avalon.  An extreme machine with memory card slots brought back a lot of good memories and I had some great edits that I had made.  Oh well...

so, unless anyone knows a SAFE place to keep my machine, its staying in my apartment.  It is also horrible to move, so I don't want to move it unless I have to.

but, we should meet up to play some ITG or pump or something sometime.  I could travel over to the west side of the city, I have already done that quite a few times to go running with some people I met over there.  hit me up on msn messenger if you have it.  i am dmsderek on there.  hopefully catch up with you soon (or meet you in the case of dancingtofu)

Re: Let's Hang Out!

The P1 side of the machine at Clack Town Center works pretty well, but the left arrow will usually start sticking after 7 or 8 songs.  It's a great place to go stomp out a set if you feel a need for some SuperNOVA on a weekend (the arcade is open publicly during weekends and whenever they have full staff).

Other than that and BiGal's, we've basically gone through everything in Portland.  The Pump It Up at Ultrazone is absolute trash now; I have not seen a machine in worse condition than that one since last time I went to Chuck E Cheeses.

Re: Let's Hang Out!

lol, I used to live in Delaware a few years ago...I think we may have played DDR and other bemani together (beatmania or pop'n at jeremy's house??)  unless that is a different schlagwerk.  but yea, if that's where you know me from, that's cool.

I can confirm I am "that" Schlagwerk with "You got a perdy mouth, boy" & "No man should be able to sing Toxic that well"
It's pretty awesome to run into you again.  Do you still play IIDX or Pop'n at all?
I haven't progressed much in DDR since back then, but I still play occasionally for fun. It's a shame we're on opposite sides of Portland, but Ground Kontrol downtown has a decent Extreme, Lloyd Center has ITG2, and I'm all for hanging out again.  (also Sunset Bowling Alley in Beaverton has a SN2, but the damn thing taunts me incessantly because it's broken in some way or another every time I try to play it)
