It's the end of an era, but not really all that unexpected.  I won't write about this too much as, sadly, I'm not sure that many people care at this point. To me it seems like the plug has been pulled on an already (mostly) dead site. :\

It's definitely been a long time coming, but it still makes me sad. So many memories from that place. I'm just glad I backed up a ton of their FAQs and old articles onto my ftp.

There's a lot of smaller sites out there. But as far as the big sites go, yeah, that's about it.

I find it interesting that I haven't seen ZIV or Bemani Style post anything about DDR Freak's closure, even though they announced Arcade Infinities closing and DDR UK's.

We're the last frontier folks.  I'm going to enjoy this forum more than ever now, that DDRFreak, my first forum/internet home (cheesy, i know) is down.

Due to other sites falling out, we're now #2 on google for "ddr forum", and #10 for "dance dance revolution forum".

We really are going to be one of the last frontiers for Bemani, and I'm going to keep this Frontier going until everyone stops visiting the site.

I'm more than willing to donate a bit to keep the server up, if needed, and I think others would be willing as well.

Da-Risin-Smoke, (if you are talking about this site) thanks for the offer!  This site's server costs are fairly minimal.  The cost per month is less than what most of you spend in 1 trip to the arcade. Tongue

I host several other sites on the account as well, so unless I die, I'll have web hosting somewhere. I appreciate the offer, and I'd rather have you spend your $ at an arcade keeping it alive instead, as they're more likely to die before this site will. Smiley

If you're talking about donating to DDRFreak, I'm not sure that'll even help at this point...

Nah, I'm talking about here.

DDRFreak is pretty much dead to me now.  I agree with the author of that article.  They let this go on far too long, it's a disgrace.

Site's back except for the forum and some other stuff

It's the end of the DDR Freak world as we know it. Thanks for the ride, everyone! We started out in March 2000 with the crazy idea of promoting DDR in the San Francisco Bay Area, and we ended up doing a heck of a lot more than that. Thank you to all the users and staff who made it possible. Give us a shout out on twitter using the #ddrfreak hashtag with your favorite memories.

The old server has been taken out of its former facility, and it will continue to live on as a mostly static website. Not everything has been moved over to the new (much smaller) server, but I plan to move all the old articles back as soon as I can. Current ETA is Nov 1, since the old server has some hardware issues. Forums will be completely locked down due to spam issues.
