Sakuracon 2009 - April 10-12 Seattle, WA

Its creeping up again soon.  The wired will be back this year, the news and games list was just posted here...

http://scmb.sakuracon.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=18398&start=0

  • Dance Dance Revolution EXTREME
  • Dance Dance Revolution SuperNOVA
  • Pop n Music 13
  • Guitar Freaks 11 and Drum Mania 10
  • Soul Calibur 2
  • Tetris Grand Master 3
  • Initial D ver. 4 with Link Play
  • Street Fighter IV

I'm actually looking forward to this year way more then the past couple of ones.  I'm happy to see arcade games again, thanks Bill for the support!

I won't be able to run a Pop'n tournament this year due to being in artist alley, but if someone else wants to run it, I could probably help at some points.  I just can't commit the time though.

If you want to read more about the event, just check out the web site...

It was great to be at a competitive level at a tournament for once, since the switch from DDR to ITG things just haven't been as fun for me, but this was a real blast, every one of my matches in the tournament I had to fight for, and it was a great time. If anyone is interested in seeing a few videos, I have them up on my youtube - www.youtube.com/ddrcrono

Good job Charlie! I'm glad you saved A for a tough opponent Smiley and 8th is nothing to balk at when your competition was that good.

Congrats everyone!

Ethan, I did get in the top 8 for you.  Originally seeded 7th, then a few people showed up and pushed me back to 9th.  I managed to beat Tada (who seeded 8th) 2-0 (we're actually really closely matched) to creep into the top 8, then lost 1-2 against Cynic.  If not for me doing ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE on the first song, it would have actually been a pretty good set for me.  42 on Yozoru no Muko, 7 on A (heavy), 13 on Spin the Disc.  Considering he seeded 1st, I was pretty stoked that I beat him on A, even though I beat most people on A. Tongue

Did that button ever get fixed?  I gave up on trying to play DDR after the rave because I was really tired and my feet hurt.

Practice makes perfect.  But I'd rather be great. ;]

Re: Sakuracon 2009 - April 10-12 Seattle, WA

I got back earlier today.  Had a good time.  Was busy at artist alley along of the con, so I didn't get a chance to hang out as much as I would have liked too.  I'm not sure if I'll do it again next year.

I was happy about the gaming this year.  I thought the Pop'n machine was a little quiet though, but it was no biggy.  I also think there should have been Taiko instad of Donkey Konga, but its alright.

Was happy to see some people, Kevin, Pantsou, Keby.  I watched Amber play Pop'n a little.

Does anyone know who the Nabeshin guy was that was playing Pop'n?

Welp, that was fun. I purchased the ticket & low badge numbel for next year this morning, maybe I'll be good at some game next time.

Also, We really should have a BYOB or something one of these days, it's been forever.

Woot! I'll see you all in a couple of minutes I guess, lol.
I was gonna cosplay today, but then the sudden reality of me playing a Didder tourny in a three piece suit didn't sound quite pleasing, lol.

Haha...I'm not that unorganized. Amber's helping out too. Qualifiers start at 3. Knock yourself out!

Just as a notice for everyone:

I went down there today. GFDM and both DDRs are working absolutely perfectly. Amber and I both had some AAAs today, it's working fine.

TGM on the other hand...

What time can we start the qualifiers at? Or is this still unknown?

Worst case scenario, you can wander around until security stops you, then ask them where you go to pick up your badge.  That's what I did last year. Tongue

Anyway, I need to go to sleep now.  I've got a 2-hour bike ride and a 4-hour train ride tomorrow, and I need to be up in 8 hours to get all my shit done.

btw, train departs from Portland at 4:20pm lololol

Practice makes perfect.  But I'd rather be great. ;]

I don't know if they do things the same way that PAX does, but I would believe they probably would. When you walk into the convention center, there are flights of escalators. Take them up to the 4th floor, go immediately left, then straight to the back of the hallway and there are counters for check-in/registration there.  If it's not, I'm sure there will be plenty of signs telling you where to go.

I would assume there at the entrance.
That's the first place I'm checkin to go get my badge on thursday.

Head directly to the Registration booths. They'll have your badges.

Is that at the Convention Center entrance?

I realize these are all probably really lame questions, but the FAQs on Sakuracon.org, while very useful for what to do at the convention, didn't really help with the simple logistics of where to get badges, etc.

Re: Sakuracon 2009 - April 10-12 Seattle, WA

The tournament will be in the Wired arcade gaming room. As far as I know, this is on the 4th floor near all the other gaming stuff. It should probably be more clear on the day of the convention. Sorry for not being more specific, but I haven't been told anything either.

Head directly to the Registration booths. They'll have your badges.

The machines will be on freeplay the whole convention. Cheesy

Re: Sakuracon 2009 - April 10-12 Seattle, WA

So this is my first time going to Sakuracon. Can someone answer a few quick Questions?

-For this tournament, I know when (4 PM Friday) but I do not know WHERE it is at. Can someone tell me what area it will be in and when are the times we can show up for the qualifier song?

-If I pre-paid for the entire weekend, where should I go to pickup my passes? I won't be getting to the convention center until after 1PM on Friday, so does this change anything?

-Will I need quarters to play on the machines or participate in the tourny?
