Hey guys! I'm running the DDR tournaments - DDR X3 and Challenge at Sakuracon this year. Tony is running ITG, and he'll post all of that himself when he has everything together.

DDR X3 RULES

THE BASICS:

-Each round, every player will play the same song.
-Results will be ranked based on machine score.
-Each round, everybody will play the same song and some number of players will be eliminated.
-At the point that only four entrants remain in the tournament, the format will switch to Round Robin.

ELIMINATION ROUNDS:

First round: Participants will play a random 11-footer. The top 16 players will continue to the next round.
Second round: Participants will play a random 12-footer. The top 8 players will continue to the next round.
Third round: Participants will play a random 13-footer. The top 4 players will continue to the final round.

ROUND ROBIN FINALS:

For the finals, each player will play every other player in a head-to-head, best two out of three match exactly once. Each player will pick one song. If there is a tie after both picks, a random third song will be selected as a tiebreaker. Winning a match will result in receiving a point; the player with the most points at the end of the finals wins. If there are ties with regard to point totals, those ties will be broken by playing another best two out of three match.

- Players may select any song playable on DDR X3 on the Heavy or Challenge difficulty against their opponents.
- Players may not select any given song more than once over the course of the tournament.
- Random songs will be selected on Heavy difficulty only.

CHALLENGE RULES

Players will have to play a series of challenges that will be unveiled the day of. Anything goes. Be warned. Wink

Awesome, thanks for putting this together again this year.

Is there a schedule for this? Is it running all weekend, just Saturday, ..? I actually haven't had a chance to make it to Sakura-Con before, so I'm not sure how it's usually run. Smiley

The schedule is available on the Sakuracon website. I suppose I probably should have included the times here too, though. The DDR X3 tournament is on Saturday in the early afternoon, and the Challenge tournament is on Sunday morning.

Thanks for the heads up.

ITG Qualifier: Saturday 11am-12:30pm
ITG Tournament: Saturday 1pm-6pm
DDR Tournament: Saturday 2pm-7pm
4-Panel Challenge: Sunday 11am-3pm

It was fun, though I missed the finals   Lips sealed

I think there were around 10 entrants for the Saturday round-robin DDR tourney and Tuan took 1st.

Yeah. Big thanks to Laura for pulling off all the events and Tony for working on technical issues.
Things all seemed to run very smoothly after the initial monitor and sensor problems on day1
