I'll be making Narrows on Saturday, Sunday is still a tossup, working at the southcenter mall and missing sunday would make it extra bitter knowing a tournament is across the street from my workplace. I dropped by ACME today and met a Kevin, I understand there are a few kevins in the pnw tournament circuit though.

My name is Nimesh (knee-mish), I go by that or Nim. Played in the tournaments 2-3 years ago, can't wait to see and meet you guys there,
most likely a deal of familiar faces also!

Regarding Narrows on saturday,

They normally open at noon.  Tournament registration begins at 11:00 A.M.
There is a possibility that they will not open to the general public before noon this Saturday.  However, we will be inside, and watching the exterior doors for tournament players.  We will let you in.  If this is the case, I will put a sign in the window with my cell number so you can phone in if I am behind on making front door checks.

Added prize, to be used at the administrators discretion, the ITG marquee that used to adorn the Acme ITG 2.

I'll probably go to the SN tourny. Though if I'm driving 1.5 hours down to Tacoma, this sh*t better be hype!

I'll be there, but I'm not expecting to do well at all.  I'm still sore from working out yesterday...
I have a fantasy football draft at 1000 hours so I might be a little late, but I should be at Narrow's before registration ends at 1230...

Keby and I will be there too. I've gotta pick him up on my way down from Lynnwood, and depending on trafifc, I may or may not be there exactly @ 11.

Please keep this in mind.

It's okay. The qualification deadline is 12:30 anyway.

Also, I usually don't do this, but if anyone needs or wants to contact me before the tournament or to tell me they're running a bit late, my number is 4257361352. Texts and calls are okay.

double post oh no!

Well I learned a nice lesson at the ITG tourny.

Raping stamina songs does NOT win tournaments.

It always seems odd when the organizers rank high in a tournament they're running...

I don't mean to be rude but I think it's pretty reasonable that the two players who hold almost half of the machine records placed first and second. Also makes sense that a player who hasn't played for two years and still holds the other half of the machine records placed fourth. As for me, I dunno. I'm pretty decent at the game still.

Well, the point of running the tournament, is to run it...    Tongue

Edit: I was IM'ing with Kevin, and thought I'd post a disclaimer: Neither post was suggesting that the rules rigged it for the organizers nor that they cheated, or anything along those lines. I wasn't even there, so I couldn't even say one way or the other. All I was saying was it's realllllllly a bad/suspicious image when it's first place = organizer's bf, second = organizer, third = organizer. It's not that it wasn't fair, the way it looks is just odd.

no, the point of running a tournament is to have a tournament to play in. i'm sorry, i totally disagree. kevin birrell and i are both pretty good itg players, and we want incentive to play in a competitive environment. if no one else is going to create an event, why would we host something but not enter it?

i could see it being weird if there were an inclusion of custom songs or something that would give us a distinct advantage, but there was no such thing -- best two out of three, each person picks a song, and then a random if a tiebreaker is needed. maybe a little weird about the qualifier decision, but kevin and i kept that as simple as possible. we spoke exactly twice about it: once was deciding what the preliminary songs would be (which were basically posted immediately afterward), and again the day of the tournament in deciding what the actual song would be. so, everyone found out (including us) at the same time what the qualifiers would be.

to reemphasize: i feel this was a very level playing field where neither of us had any distinct advantage.

so then what is your point of saying this? kevin boddy is the best tournament player in probably the world. i am pretty solidly regarded as one of the best players around seattle. kevin birrell is very, very good too. can you say that it is an unexpected result? no.

furthermore, i am hearing complaints about other ridiculous things.

it clearly states in the itg rules that hard mode is not selectable. yes, one match consisted of a hard song. it didn't effect the tournament in any way as an end result, and for people to say that the organization was an entire failure because of this one instance, screw your head on straight. do not say that there were major communication breakdowns, that the organizers didn't know the rules, or that i was too distracted by my boyfriend being there, or whatever bullshit reasoning is being brought up. i'm sorry it happened. but it. happens.

if you're going to complain about a tournament, complain about ddr. there were many more problems with that. two instances of pad issues. (yeah, "so many more problems.")

i think the tournament went swimmingly. it was efficient, fun, and there were a number of really good and exciting matches. dare i say i was glad to see some people enjoying a competitive atmosphere, and i almost felt like there was a chance of renewing some semblance of a community that would enjoy tournaments and try to compete more amongst one another. i guess, at least up until these bullshit complaints i have been hearing.

you know what, i am kind of over it. i have heard many more complaints than i have words of appreciation. granted, i wasn't running a tournament so people would owe me gratitude, but it was a good tournament. ddr went really well. itg went completely fine. you're very welcome for the time that was spent hacking the machine, fixing up pads and the ram issues, drawing up rules, getting a flyer done and hammering out details between two locations. i'm not feeling inclined to do it again.

Guys lets not get into an argument over it. It already happened, let it be.

I thought both tournaments went great. Neither of them were delayed (Which is a huge thing for me at least, I hate tournaments getting delayed like an hour or more for stupid reasons)
And overall I was pleased with it. Hell it's one of the few tournament I've been in were someone didn't pull a bitch-fit in front of everyone.
And so I say Thank you very much for doing this.
It's a shame that people can't just roll with it and have fun., but you can't please everyone in a DDR/ITG tourny.
